Accommodation near stations

I'm setting up a website of decent hotels/b&bs within 15 mins walk of UK rail stations.
Suggestions welcome, but they must be well-rated on Trip Advisor.

The Landmark in London so nice that Bayern Munich stayed there before the Champions League final last month. It's approximately ten seconds walk from Marylebone station.

How do you define well rated? There has been much discussion on that particular forum about the rating/reviewing/ranking system there and its flaws.

In light of the concerns expressed by quite a few regular contributors on TripAdvisor, I would be careful about setting any sort of criteria based on something like a ranking on there. Have you considered merely providing a factual list and letting people do their own research and make up their own minds? If you have rejected this is there any particular reason?

My own suggestions would be:

Reading: Malmaison, Ibis, Novotel, Geroge, Premier Inn Central, Holiday inn, Premier Inn Caversham Bridge

Cardiff: Maldron, Radisson Blu, Premier Inn, Marriott, Hilton, Park Inn by Radisson

Swansea: Grand, Dragon

Southampton: Ibis, Novotel, Grand Harbour

Llanelli: None!

By the way, I think this thread is better placed in General Discussion, as it is more about hotels that railways.

As I type this list I am increasingly conscious that the hotels I have mentioned are very wide ranging in terms of their facilities and price levels. Most of the hotels themselves have a wide range of price levels, depending on season, day and availability. I can't help but feel that it would be more helpful to me as a user of such a site to rank hotels by star rating, distance from the station, or average price, as well as or instead of TA ratings.

Thanks for the suggested hotels. Point taken about Reviews, but if you read enough of them you get a pretty good idea of the standard.

Thanks for all the suggested entries. I hope to have the website up and running by the Autumn. The accommodation will be shown in distance from the station, rather than gradings, stars or reviews. Users can check out reviews themselves, but accommodation won't be included that attracts consistently poor reviews.

York - Best Western Dean Court Hotel. About a ten minute walk from the station, and very central (right opposite the Minster) for all the attractions too! I've stayed there multiple times, and will again in September.

There is also the Guy Fawkes Inn which I have stayed at (they serve their own home-made black pudding at breakfast, which I know will tickle some people's fancy here ), and is just across the road from the Dean Court, and the Lamb & Lion Inn, which I haven't (although apparently it is very nice: voted one of the top 100 best city hotels in Europe by the Sunday Times).

Hotel Indigo, Liverpool. Just round the corner from the Old Hall Street Exit of Moorfields station. Excellent

Premier Inn, Aintree, Liverpool. Across road from Aintree station. Not bad, nice breakfast, handy for the racecourse, area not very good for pubs or restaurants.

Newcastle - The Royal Station Hotel. You can't get much nearer to the station than that!

The rooms aren't exactly the "affordable luxury" they advertise on their website, but they are perfectly acceptable - at least the one I had was. You also get a fridge in your room which gets stocked with a couple of bottles of water and some KitKats. If you get the right room you get a great view of the railway too!

Norwich - The Station Hotel. Stayed there over the Easter break; excellent value for money IMO.

Comments welcomed and suggestions for additions. Bear in mind the criteria for establishments to be included are:

1. Must have en-suite rooms
2. Must have more above-average comments on Trip Advisor than below-average.
3. Must be within a max 15 mins walk of a UK railway station.
4. Must have their own website.

The website is intended for business/leisure travellers as well as railway enthusiasts. The emphasis is on quality not the cheapest!!

I stayed at
Doncaster Central (High Fishergate) Premier Inn
last year, less than 10 mins from the station and very nice - not been open that long.

Maybe because it's so new nobody has suggested it. Thanks, will add it today. Generally Premier Inns are extremely well-managed as opposed to Travelodge which are hit and miss!

I wouldn't say the Hilton is that close to Central station to be honest, unless there's another one I'm not aware of! (I'm thinking of the one where the Megabus stops)

A Holiday Inn at the end of Westgate Street.
The Ibis in between Central and Queen Street
The Big Sleep, next to the Ibis.
The Royal on St Mary Street.

Stayed in Doncaster Premier Inn recently on a Friday night. Rowdy neighbours around 4am banging on doors and shouting, however when we mentioned this to the reception in the morning, they offered a full refund under Premier Inn's Good Night Guarantee. The receptionist also said that they will be putting phones in the rooms sometime in the near future, so you can call reception about rowdy neighbours without getting out of bed.
