Having watched the second part of BBC 1's D-Day programme presented by Dan Snow tonight, I can confirm in my opinion he has totally outclassed his Fathers offering on Channel 4 last week . (also 2 shows)

Peter Snow may rue the day he allowed his son to join him on the screen , as in my view he has "kicked the old man into touch"

David Starkey > Both of them ;) One of the most intelligent and interesting men on TV. Also the only reason I'll watch Question Time. To be fair neither of the Snows particularly attract my interest. I watched a doc they did on Culloden and it would have been more interesting if Steve Davis and Bob Harris had been presenting it.

I dont think any other presenter comes close to Peter Snows skills working with blue screen, from the swingometer to the Battlefields series.

Dan Snow is passionate about history but I dont see him being as passionate when presenting a different topic.

Talking of Dan Snow he is desperately missed in the live sections of Airport Live currently airing on BBC2 - his pre-recorded segments are the best parts of the show.

With all due respect to Kate Humble she does not have the gravitas to host a production like this  As for the other two where did they dig them up from Dallas and Anita who ???

Dallas used to be on the Gadget Show, he was always going round the world to look at robots.

... And quite possibly the best Tudor / monarchy historian alive in Britain.

Perhaps. But also one of the most bigoted and (I find) repulsive people who keep popping up on TV etc when you really don't want them to.

(I know our political views are almost diametrically opposed - I just couldn't leave that one sitting there ;) )

Well I tend to look beyond his political and social beliefs into his actual work, whilst some of what he says is interpreted by his politics (staunch defence of the monarchy etc) there are few better than him on the period in and around Henry VIII. An example for me would be Christopher Hill. I despise his political beliefs, but he's the best author on Cromwell I have ever read. For that reason, I only ever read his historical works so I don't need to moan about his politics.

David Starkey has forgotten more than the 2 Snows put together.

True, he "lost his marbles" years ago :p

That's not a very nice thing to say about Peter Snow ;)

And for anyone thinking I'm jumping to defend Starkey because of his politics I'm not - thought there's glimpses of libertarianism in what he says he's strikes me more as an old-school conservative than anything else, which I wouldn't generally bother with. But it is people like him, with his knowledge, his tone, his dedication that got me into history. If my lessons in school and college had been a video of Tony Robinson sat in a field in Staffordshire looking for a 5,000 year old vase instead I wouldn't care for it at all. Starkey is one of very few historians I genuinely find interesting. Simon Sharma (sp?) is another.

I like Lucy Worsley myself :p - curator of Royal Palaces and sometime TV Presenter. Standby for a non-pc remark

She's dead posh and with her lispy voice dead sexy :p

How can you not love anything Tony Robinson does? He's great!

Chief Curator of Historic Royal Palaces; the bods that run the Tower of London, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace, Hampton Court and the Banqueting House.

I've had the pleasure of seeing her irl. I've attended two lectures that she gave. One exclusive to members of HRP (I'm one) in the Great Hall at Hampton Court (she walked right past where I was sitting at that one :D), and the other, for anyone, in the Banqueting House, which was to do with her recent programmes.

She's on Twitter too.

:D

It isn't even my cat, but I did take the photo. :p

Actually, talking about HRP, I've just had a look at the members' events area of the website and seen one or two I'm interested in booking. 8-)

At that last lecture we were given a cocktail that was drunk by George IV, or something. I had a recipe card somewhere.
