Harrow and Wealdstone to Staines

Hello all,

Looking at the above fare on 21st June arriving before 10am, returning around 6ish the same day. I have a 16-25 railcard and an oyster card.

I see the minimum fare of £12 for a return is coming up. Is there anyway of spilt ticketing here or using the oyster card to a certain point?

Oyster - H&W to Clapham Junction via Kensington Olympia using Southern or London Overground - £2.70 peak x2 = £5.40 (excluding YP discount which isn't available during the peaks)

SDR - Clapham Junction to Staines - £10.80, total = £16.20.

A SDR from H&W to Staines is £17.50 via Kensington Olympia or £19.10 with cross London tube transfer between Euston and Waterloo/Vauxhall.

So I'd use the £12 minimum fare for a SDR via London.

You can use Oyster PAYG (with Railcard discount loaded).

Harrow & Wealdstone to Feltham is £3.20 peak fare if you change at Willesden Junction and Richmond. (£3.80 if changing at Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction.)

If you can avoid the evening peak fare period when you come back, your fare will be £1.45 (via Richmond) or £1.60 (via Clapham Junction) including Railcard discount.

Feltham - Staines Off-Peak Day Return is £4.90 if you leave from Feltham after 0930 (£6.10 otherwise). You won't get any Railcard discount if you want to arrive by 10am, due to minimum fare. There is a 0937 from Feltham which will get you to Staines for 0945, which is valid with the Off-Peak Day Return.

If you are changing at Willesden Junction and Richmond, please note the following:

To ensure you are charged the appropriate fare you must touch on the pink card reader on the Oyster route validator if interchanging at Willesden Junction and Richmond

There is no such requirement if interchanging at Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction, as that is the default fare.

I'm not sure there'll be much of a saving possible via a ‘normal’ route, but if you're willing to put up with a slower journey including the use of a bus each way we can get it down to £7.40. That would involve using the tube and Overground to get to Hatton Cross via Gunnersbury, then a 203 bus.

Or, blending my suggestion with bb21's, you could follow his instructions to get to Feltham then use the 117 bus to Staines.

Both the 117 and 203 are London buses so a normal £1.40 Oyster bus far is valid on their entire route.

It is, but Clapham Junction to Feltham is £1.60 off-peak with Railcard discount on Oyster PAYG.

Alternatively the OP would need a paper ticket from Clapham Junction to Staines, at £10.80 for the Anytime Day Return, as the Off-Peak Day Return is not valid at the times he wanted to travel.

Neither would be cheaper than splitting at Feltham.

I realise that this might have stemmed from the confusion where I said "£1.45 (Richmond) or £1.60 (Clapham Junction)" in my earlier post. I have amended this.

Route 117 operates every 20 minutes. The last bus to reach Staines before 0800 is at 0716 from the Red Lion in Feltham arriving at 0748.

Note that the OP wants to be at Staines at 10am, not 8am. Admittedly the bus journey is much longer than the train one, although a small advantage of the bus is that it drops people off in the town centre, whereas the station's a few minutes' walk away.

Sorry my mistake that's the fare for a 16 + with railcard. You are correct the cheapest fare is £1

Cheers for all the replies. So if I was at Feltham, would there be a chance to run off, touch out and get back on the same train or would I have to wait for the next one? What I'm asking here is, are there any oyster readers on the platform?

You're welcome.

I think you can do that at Feltham when travelling towards Staines. If you stand by the correct set of doors, then I believe it is possible to run off, touch out, and get back on the same train.

In the other direction, it might be trickier, as you have to exit the gates and then touch in with Oyster, although I could be wrong.

Does anyone know what carriage for feltham I would have to be to run out and stay on the same train?
