Got told my routes today in a very long winded way...

London Bridge to East Croydon
Victoria to East Croydon
East Croydon to Caterham
Selhurst Depot

Surely just easier to say Vic and Bridge to Caterham? :D

Depending how it goes could learn to West Croydon from both Selhurst and Norwood Jct and the Sydenham Spurs.

Southern break route learning into bits as its such a large network. Later on you won't be road learning full trips but just add on bits to what you sign like crystal palace to beckenham or just the leigham spur etc-so it's just easier to break it down into sections.

Quick Q, dies anyone know if the GB test is used or SCAAT, or if they're computer based or paper based? Cheers.

I actually enjoy all of the routes I'd be doing, so I can't wait to get out there.

Paul that was a rumour but doesn't seem to be the case. Our three new lads from the class ahead of ours are all just doing their 16 days now. There are people seemingly in Link 4 who still haven't done Tattenham and have been there a while now. Wouldn't mind learning that and Beckenham to be honest but after Caterham I think we then sign...

• Purley to Tattenham
• Balham to Sutton via Crystal Palace
• Sutton to Epsom / Epsom Downs
• Crystal Palace to Beckenham

Don't quote me on that though!!! :) *Train geek*

They are computer based (GB and the reaction test)

As a matter of interest who drives the Class 171s? Is it an add on to the electric fleet or particular staff?

No one heard anything still?

Got an invitation yesterday to Knollys House for assessment. Looking for forward to it but butterflies have also kicked in - being spooked by the thought of failure, which also serves to motivate further.

Good luck to everyone else facing the same challenges

Is this from the application that closed on the 5/06/2013? Or is this earlier?

Think positive, if you've done your home work you will be fine. Best of luck

As Paul said make sure you practice. The material they give you is handy but you'll be in for a shock when you get there, they are similar but also a lot easier than the real tests.

Amd remember, don't panic! Being a driver is all about how you keep cool under pressure. ;)

Which depot did you apply for?

Thanks all for your well wishes.

I first applied last year July or August for a post that stated all depots; which incidentally I got an email confirming my pass at application stage.

Having not heard anything back since then, I recently applied for both the Victoria and London Bridge positions advertised earlier in the month. Following on from this sequence of events, I've now received my invite.

Many thanks for the invaluable information everyone has offered.

Southern have been known to offer jobs at other locations than those you applied for. There is a vic driver who lives on the coast who applied for Brighton and was offered a job at vic.

They're quite firm on this 30 minute malarkey. They had kittens when they got my new address

I think that's more because they are so short if drivers at present and so many have left to other TOCs that they are just waiting for you to join the long list of drivers who have left Victoria for other 'local' TOCs in the last few years!

I actually live in Hemel Hempstead now which is a little closer but have said id be willing to move closer into london if I had to.

I'm in bletchley so shouldn't see it being an issue.

Okay, went to the assessment today. All went well - that is, with respect top what we done. Things were a bit different from what people have expressed. Done the tests, but the Structured Interview changed a bit. We wrote or responses to 5 scenario based questions, but instead of having the interview we concluded for the day and told we'd be doing the Manager's Interview next and if successful, then we'd be invited back for the remainder of the Structured Interview.

Bit of an anti-climax, but hey, more time to prepare and practice.

Hi mate,

Congratulations on getting to assessment stage, how long did you wait from applying for job to getting to invite stage and did you do the driver fault finding test or mechanical comprehension as part of the assessment process. Good luck for structured interview.

Many Thanks
