... or should that be the CENTRO map?

The Bermuda Triangle is famous for ships and aircraft dissapearing as they enter it. Similarly, Central Trains conductors do exactly the same thing when the enter the CENTRO zones.

Examples:

2 conductors doing continuous ticket checks and sales between Stafford and Landywood, but suddenly dissapearing not to be seen again after the Landywood stop.

Appearance of a ticket inspecting chappy between Barnt Green and Redditch only on X-City South.

No ticket checks Snow Hill - Stourbridge Junction, but regular checks from Stourbridge to Worcester.

Coincidence? Official policy? Unwritten rule?

I'd say there are a number of issues. Most stations in the Centro/NWM area have staffed ticket offices. There is also a close gap between stations, on 323s the only place to open the doors is from the rear cab or the panel by the pantograph - it can be difficult to reach this before the stop. On 3 car 150s again the only place is rear cab compartment or the former middle cabs.

Also don't forget that Snr Conductors can't issue Penalty Fares and there is a number of inspectors patrolling and Snr Conductors might not consider it worthwhile.

I'd say its more Central Trains 'management/staff relationship issues' that results in little gripping, certainly from the Cov/New St men on the Wolves-Cov and CrossCity corridors which I am semi-regular on. Silverlink don't seem to bother with ticket checks either anymore on 321s out of Euston.

Why not? The companies will be first to complain that revenue is being lost, and jack up everyone else's fares because of it.

Didn't realise early 150's, 323's, etc. didn't have door controls elsewhere other than the cab end area's (& the pantograph car in the 323). Bit daft 'aint it, thought like the 158's/159's & 170's I have travelled on frequently in the past, they had them at every door area?

Central's 150s only have door controls in the bit by the cabs. CT have a number of 3Car 150s which are made up of 2 cars and a single car from another unit, meaning doors can also be opened in the middle.

I don't know what it's like on other TOCs, but FGW's 150s have door control panels at opposite doors in each carriage.

Erm, isn't that the point? Increased revenue for TOCs? They always lie. If some certain train companies were Pinocchio, their noses would stretch from Vancouver to Halifax! (I mean the one in West Yorkshire).
