Hey guys,

I've heard from a few people that Facebook are changing some privacy settings this summer. Does anyone know what is actually going to change?

Cheers

A new tickbox to specify whether to share your data with PRISM?

I hope your tongue is firmly in your cheek, otherwise what would be the point of this? It's the US government. They'll just do what they like anyway, as with everything else.

Probably because it looks absolutely ghastly.
Which is what everyone says, every time that FB change the look and feel of their site. And demanding that it return to the previous layout... which the very same people complained about when it was introduced!

I see fully what you mean and totally agree. I don't have too much of an issue with Timeline in all honesty, but I really dislike the two column layout. Similarly I don't really have an issue with the Youtube changes over the years, just when they removed the star system to introduce like / dislike instead. About 10% of comments on the site now (especially on music videos or similar) is about how many people have disliked the thing and how they must in some way be affected by the circumstances of the song.

I am not opposed to changes, but looking at that new Facebook style, I do not like it at all — I don't like the fact that they are trying to make what is a desktop site look like something that should be on a tablet or small device, echoing the shambles that is Windows 8.

Youtube comments have always been a place of reasoned debate and respectful comments /s :p

I dislike how it still only wants to use ~850 pixels of width. Are web designers still living in 1998 or something? It's especially jarring on my widescreen (1440) screen!

I think that new layout looks quite nice!

What I don't get is why FB persists with the "top stories" option for news feeds, I really don't need to be able to see everything I've just seen in a different order, pointless!! Especially when you take into account the fact that the iOS app STILL defaults to it!

Surely having things in chronological order is much more efficient, but there you go, that's just facebook wanting us to 'like' and 'share' people's photos even more...

It's most annoying that currently Facebook on my iPod has lost the functionality to switch between the two modes, so it is stuck on Top Stories, and thus I can't be bothered to use it.

I cannot stand the constant whining and moaning about how awful every new Facebook/YT layout is, and the inevitable 'groups' and 'pages' which demand its reinstatement.

Oh dear.

As others have commented above, I tend to be one of those terrible Luddites as regards changes which I later get used to and mostly like.

That said, the new one looks especially wanky-Windows-8-ey and I, of course, hate it.
