I have the return portion of a super off peak return from Peterborough to London.

My friend lives in St Albans, and I will be visiting her.
I was thinking of taking either East Coast (and change at Stevenage) or FCC to Hatfield.
Hatfield and St Albans are very close geographically. She will pick me up from Hatfield.
She does not mind dropping me into London, but since I have broken my journey at Hatfield, can I continue to use it as St Albans on a FCC thameslink service to St Pancras or better still West Hamstead?

You can break your journey at Hatfield.

You cannot resume your journey on the Thameslink route as it is not a permitted route between Peterborough and London.

FCC has a line2line connection (a ticket that is valid on any bus between Hatfield and St Albans) so it's a shame you couldn't get this and then go into St Pancras if your ticket was marked Peterborough to London Terminals.

Might be worth asking FCC if this could ever be possible.

As I understand it, it would not be valid even if it were on a permitted route, unless it formed part of the route the OP originally set out on. You can't use more than one permitted route for a single journey (as in, origin-destination on a ticket), break of journey or not, unless it's a Season.

Does line2line have the same significance as the other established rail-bus links (ie X1 to Lowestoft, X5 at St Neots, etc)?

If so, and if it counts as 0 miles, Peterborough-Hatfield-St Albans-st Pancras could possibly be within 3 miles of the direct.

I have no idea if you can book this ticket online either as part of a route or even on its own, as a way to travel from one station to the other as if a virtual rail line.
