Mainline registred Preserved Locos

Hi, probably been asked but before but I cannot find any info

Is there a list of Mainline Registered Diesel/Electric/Steam preserved Locos

I thought there would have been more than that. Are there no plans for a Peak or a Warship, or even a 26 & 27 which were the mainstay of Scottish Rail in the Seventies & early Eighties.

46035 had a spell on the mainline as D172 Ixion but is now under a sheet at Crewe Heritage Centre.
45112 has also had a spell being main line certified.

Both I think are mainline registered, to be dragged between railways, but cannot run under there own power on the mainline.

Only plans would be 37025 and 37403, although 20001 was considered for mainline registration as I believe it's own by the same group who own 20142/189/227

Whitby to Battersby only. Not OTMR fitted but does have TPWS and GSMR.

20227 is the only preserved one mainline isn't it with 142/189 being Michael Owen owned rather than preservation society? I know there is a fine line between private and preserved these days and some groups like to use the two as interchangeable but I'd have the MO 20s as commercial assets rather than preserved locos.

I'd agree with that although, as you say, there is no clear cut line any more. One loco that could possibly be added to the list is Howard Johnston's 31106.

Obviously it's the owners choice, but I've also regarded mainline preserved locos as those based at heritage railways and centres. 20142 is based at Barrow Hill, and 20189/227 at MRC. And they don't seem to be doing much freight haulage at the moment, just visiting galas, and 20189/227 will see use on LUL150 trains.

AFAIK there is a requirement that all locos registered for main line running must be air (or dual) braked.
Many classes which were withdrawn early - eg, class 21, 24, 44, Warships, Hymeks were vacuum brake only.

Iv never seen that in writing? Plenty of vacuum only steam engines running about.
