Reading or Canterbury to Manchester

Morning all,


I'm afraid I'm being a little lazy currently (well I'm pretty much swamped in work), I was wondering if anyone could provide some ideas for the following fares please.

Canterbury West (CBW) to Manchester Picadilly (MAN)
or
Reading (RDG) to MAN

The exact date of travel is in this case irrelevant as I won't be looking for advance fares as I will most likely need off-peak flexibility. I will be returning the next day to the station I came from (so either RDG or CBW).

I prefer to travel First Class, so bonus points there (I have a YP so loose out a bit here). Mega bonus points if you avoid Voyagers. I enjoy scenic/long routes although I must cap my journey time to about 4.5 hours maximum (including changes). I have no idea what my current price limit is, I just need to tot up the RTVs in my drawer...

Any suggestions, no matter how wild (providing they are valid) would be much appreciated.

I use train tickets - generally just a combination of splits. I do have a season ticket, but not on this route unfortunately.

I'm not going to say where the season ticket is from/to, but consider it to be a Ryde one as it's completely useless in this situation (it's not on or near any route I would reasonably use between RDG/CBW->MAN).

First is really tough, because of the railcard, but also because there are no FSRs on many routes. E.g., Warwick - Worcester is £16.10 SVR and valid all round the houses, but £34.40 FOR.

I reckon you can do RDG - MAN via BHM using a variety of loopholes for no more than £25 in standard, but more like £70 in first.
