YRK is York and 1N92 is the 1121 Kings Cross-Hartlepool for anyone wondering.

Reports of someone being hit on a crossing or at some other location near York station at around 1235. Apparently it's taken a while to clean up the incident scene, but lines have just reopened. It's very unfortunate, but all the more so given the recent International Level Crossing Awareness Day campaign (7 May), if it involved a crossing.

Elderly man dies after being hit by train

AN elderly man has died after being hit by a train near to York station.

The man was struck by the train just after 12.30pm today at Earfit Lane in Copmanthorpe.

Police and the ambulance service attended the scene of the incident but the man was declared dead at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

There are reports of disruptions to services at York this afternoon.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP were called to an incident near Earfit Lane in Copmanthorpe, York, after receiving reports that an elderly man had been struck by a train.

“The incident was reported to BTP at 12.41. North Yorkshire Police and medics from the Ambulance Service also attended, but the man was declared dead at the scene.
“At this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious, and officers are now working to identify the man and the exact circumstances of his death.
“Once these enquiries are complete a file will be prepared for the coroner.

“The train involved was the 11.35 Newcastle to Southampton service."

Disruptions are reported to services between York and Leeds, and between York and Hull.

Trains may be delayed or cancelled, and buses will run between York and Selby. York to Leeds trains via Harrogate are not affected.

Not at a crossing.

Earfit crossing is some way south of Copmanthorpe - it's a gated farmer's crossing, permitted users only, but pedestrians do often use it. Must be a pretty clear 1-2km unobstructed view of the quite straight line from the crossing.

If it is the one I'm thinking about, a few years back it was blocked off with green palisade fencing. When I went past a few weeks back, it look to have been reopened/gates installed.

Near where the 3 ridings meet
Earfitt crossing used to be fitted with Red and Green lights.
Is this still the case?

As for station codes these tend to be mainly used by the younger element.
The older generation may not be able to work them out or like me prefer to have things in full.

It certainly was a few years back when I was there. However, when NR put the fencing up, I cannot tell if they were removed or not.

At risk of repeating myself; this sad incident was near to, but not at at the crossing.

Someone want to point me in the right direction? I assumed that you were all railway folk, hence the station code.
I'm railway folk, and these three-letter station codes mean nothing to me ;) . YRK wasn't the most difficult to interpret though, in fairness!
