The first week of April I was invited to assessments with ATW.

The assessor stated before our tests started that there were 35 going for assessments and 8 jobs available..... 3 failed on my day, and there were others to take the tests the next day, and some sat tests the day before me....

The assessor also said that we'd be notified on the 15th(today) of the dates for structured interview, but it was likely that they would be the 18th/19th April, and that the course date would start 15th May. She even mentioned that it would be cutting it fine for people who had to give their existing employer a months notice.

I spoke to them today and they said that the last assessments were completed today ????...... this is what I'm confused about..... did a few delay their tests as they've been on holiday/not avail till now, or have they not told the truth with the amount of people going for the tests, etc ????

Anyway, they're going through all tests next few days so I'll know by end of week maybe ?

I find it unlikely now that the course would be starting on the 15th May now as it's not enough time for people to give their notice

Thanks
Carlejo

I believe there is a course currently running so it may start later but don't hold me to that, I'm not sure when it comes to driver training how things are run.

You may find that if they only had 35 tested for 8 positions not enough of the ratio of the candidates passed the tests for the ratio they need for interview so they may have had more taking the tests than previously thought. You normally need a ratio of 1 to 10 to be on the safe side, so for 8 positions you would have in the region of 80 taking the tests

Ok thanks.

If for example 25 out of the 35 passed the assessments then that's enough surely ?

25 then going for 8 jobs, if the candidates have got this far then they must be up to the standards required by ATW ?..... out of the 25 I would have thought they'd get the 8 they require ?
cheers

That only gives them 3 candidates per job. I think they will want more as some may not be suitable once interviewed. Also I would say they probably want to end up with 2, if not 3, interview passers for each of the 8 jobs to cover for subsequent medical failures and/or candidates withdrawing themselves. After all they wouldn't want to be left still having a vacancy after 5000 people applied !:D

The TOC I used to work for allowed 10 per position to take the tests as pereviously mentioned.

So how will they do it from here ?

Why would the assessor have said that they were down to their final 35 for assessment stage if this isn't true ??

On my day of tests, the Thursday, 3 failed......

The assessor said that currently they were down to 32 (as of Thursday afternoon), which would mean that no-one from the Wednesday failed, and that they had to wait for the Friday results as well, hence 3 failed on my day which leaves 32....... unless Friday was a big fail day as well and they wanted more to go for assessments to account for people not being great at structured interview and also possibly failing medical.

Cheers

Why are you actually worrying about these figures? Does it matter if there are 32 or 62? I think the assessors were mistaken or maybe there are 32 for one depot?

I'm not worrying about the figures, I just can't understand why they would tell us that 35 candidates were through to the assessment stage and then your saying it should be double that amount to account for failures, etc.....

If they thought that quite a few would fail, why didn't they get more to take tests in first place and be truthful ?

So you actually know how many took the tests per vacancy? I did mention they may or most likely are mistaken or are only commenting on what they have been doing! Just wait and see and if there are only 35 for 8 position they will certainly come up short. The other scenario is that out of the 8 positions they may have filled 4 of them with other sources like trainee's on hold, internals already interviewed and there may not be 8 left after all.

There are already internal candidates who have been given job offers so this may be the reason .

I've just contacted them and they said that people will know by the end of this week if they're through to next stage or not.

Because of this they're not sure when the dates are for the next stage either

They are former colleague of mine ;)

How many former colleagues have been offered positions then ?

I really do not think that info should be put onto an open Forum

Why not ?

What harm would it do ?

No harm except the person putting it on may be in breach of their contract in discussing company business in the puclic domain and this is a sackable offence!

You will be suprised who knows what from an open forum and I know of someone that got the sack from putting stuff about the company they worked for on a forum. All I can say is that people really need to understand what they discuss on here. Don't take this the wrong way :)

So do I and he changed his user name every 6 months or so and they had a dossier full of his posts using all of his names, he did post some pretty stupid stuff though!
