UK RAILTOURS are doing a charter train from the London area on 13 April to Cleethorpes via interesting routes/little used lines including around Immingham Docks. I am booked on it.

Peresumably as your location is Cleethorpes, you will have been out to see todays Cleethorpes-Preston (if not it gets back in to CLE at 21:52).
And, theres a charter next month, Statesman Rail's Cleethorpes-Fort William (out Fri 8 March, back Sat 9 March). Then theres the charter mentioned, and then theres the charter on Sat 18 May from Cleethorpes (to Kings Cross???) with Oliver Cromwell. Day before my birthday :D
And finally, theres a charter in October to Shrewsbury.........from Cleethorpes!

Enjoy a year of charters at Cleethorpes, I will (just nice to know I am 134 years younger than the station)
Thanks, Sam

Is the Cleethorpes narrow gauge light railway worth going on, UK railtours say they have arranged a coach connection and special on it in connection with their charter train in April.? Does anyone also know if there are any wetherspoon or similar pubs in Cleethorpes near the stations/beach where I can get a quick lunch & drink. ?Tks.

Firstly, no Wetherspoons (nereast one is Grimsby)
But I advise you visit The Punch Bowl if you want lunch and a drink, has a wide choice of meal and love eating there (know all the staff - related to three of them, one of them is the manager). Just head on the promenade and head left, in the direction of the railway past some arcades and gift shops then after about 3 minutes you'll reach a beer garden and its just next to that. There are lots of fish and chip places in the area as well.
Hope this helps, Sam

If it be just a drink you are wanting - there be the Signal Box Inn at the now mid-way / Lakeside station. It reopens at Easter. It usually has around three real ales methinks - it being some years since one last visited. It be a bit on the small side mind !

I suspect the recent landslide will mean some changes to this tour having to be made.

Yes that landslide seems to be worse than origionally thought. I guess the Railtour on 13 April which was going that way may have to go by an alternative route.

I've made an error myself, the event listed on 16th April should say 6th April
Includes memorabilia and entertainment, there may be a working replica of rocket and a plaque will be unveiled
And tonight's talk at the town hall has been cancelled!

I think it is still worrying that times are not yet in the system, with only 13 days to the charter. Someone on WNXX booked over the phone on Thursday, so I do wonder what is going on.
Meanwhile, take your time to read this if you haven't done so already. It's the same link as I put on the Hatfield Colliery thread, enjoy;

Does any one know if there will be a reversal when the train changes locos in either direction at Newark & Doncaster.? Thank you for posting these timings by the way. I did look at Railtour info site, but this tour is not even show there, let alone the timings.

Judging from previous posts in this thread the event was yesterday (Saturday 6 April). If I was in work, I'd have definitely been a part of it but rough times.

Railtour booked to run Saturday 13 April. In answer to the previous post about reversal. There won't be at Newark Northgate i doubt - nowhere safe to do it. The train will be routed to P3 or the up/down Goods as they are the only access to the Midland route at the Flat Xing. At Doncaster the 60 will arrive from the South (via Loversall flyover), the 90 attached at the southern end and depart south along the ECML.

Thank you for the recommedation about the Punch Bowl, I did go there yesterday soonafter the UK Railtours Charter Train arrived, it was very good indeed, nice food & drink and prices were fair too.

Thanks for the PM you sent yesterday, I did not see it until this morning.

If I had come down into the pub, I probably would have seen you. But I was upstairs (in my uncles flat)* and also made a couple of visits down to the station.
*Corin Paul spotted me up there, when he was at his busy photo location.

Thanks, Sam
