Does anyone else find this timetable "title" misleading?

The No. 8 pocket timetable issued by East Midlands Trains proudly proclaims on the front
Leicester - Nottingham - Cleethorpes
To me, a middle-aged potential passenger, this clearly implies that within this timetable I can find direct services between Leicester and Cleethorpes via Nottingham.
There are none.
There are Nottingham-Leicester services, the occasional Lincoln-Leicester service and Cleethorpes/Grimsby Town-Newark services
Another puzzling feature of this particular timetable relates to the "To" at the bottom of some columns, which logically indicates where the train will terminate in passenger service. A Leicester-Lincoln service somehow ends up at Sleaford while a service from either Nottingham or Newark to Lincoln finds its way to Peterborough.
Although the front of the timetable implies that Cleethorpes is a major starting/finishing point for services listed in the timetable, services from Cleethopres/Grimsby Town never venture past Newark.
Perhaps the following description would be a more accurate description of the actual service offered.
Leicester - Nottingham - Lincoln with connections to Cleethorpes.
Am I being too pedantic?

It's been like that since the start of the EMT franchise. I believe the title should be Cleethorpes-Grimsby Town-Lincoln-Newark-Nottingham-Leicster.
The Newark-Peterbrough service you mention is it timetable because it runs in the Lincoln-Newark section.
By the way, you should have seen the Central Trains timetable for this route. For Grimsby trains, in the to/from section the towns of Chester, Shrewsbury, Birmingham, Pwhelli, Aberystwyth all appeared at some point...

That's probably because they all had a direct service to Grimsby, at least at some point during Central's franchise.

While it doesn't excuse the logic, there was I believe at least one direct Sunday train from Grimsby/Cleethorpes to Nottingham recently. Not sure if it still runs though.

I think that to reflect the general pattern of the current services a two line heading would make most sense, not that I have a problem with the current title really as it reflects a number of services within geographical limits, but a reasonably brief and accurate heading could resemble this:

Leicester-Nottingham-Newark Castle-Lincoln
Newark Northgate-Lincoln-Grimsby-Cleethorpes.

"Leicester-Nottingham-Lincoln with connections to Cleethorpes" as suggested in the original post would be quite incorrect as it shows more than just connections, it shows the full service.

I posted that to mainly show what kind of through service we used to get, so we had at least a daily service through to Nottingham (and Derby/Leicster)

Thanks, Sam

A problem that was occuring during earlier days of privatisation and which has now, I believe, been rectified following pressure was TOCs publishing only their trains over a route with multi-TOC working in their Pocket Timetables. This misled passengers by not providing a full picture.

Only runs on Summer Sundays. There are no through services during the week these days, though the opportunity to change at Lincoln (or Newark - which involves walking between stations) is possible.

Whilst the heading may seem a little confusing it is the content that is important. The opposite could be said about Timetable 4 (Nottingham - Mansfield - Worksop) which shows the 07:07 from Mansfield Woodhouse - Nottingham having seat reservations available [the only service thus marked], as this goes through to Grantham, Peterborough, Ely and Norwich.

What doesn't help is the cover design of the E.M.T. Timetables, as pleasant as it may be. A three arm signpost each arm of which has a principal destination displayed limiting what can be shown is not ideal although in some cases it does work eg. Nottingham-Derby-Matlock. Make the design as attractive as possible but just have a simple title of the services within on the front and drop the signpost, that way there should be no compromise over the displayed descriptions.

Is it not useful to know about through services beyond the area covered by the timetable?

Okay, some of the interworking looks like it won't be of a great deal of use (who'd travel from Nottingham to Peterborough via Lincoln?), but if the services are through trains then it makes sense to mention this in the timetable IMHO

Although the front of the timetable implies that Cleethorpes is a major starting/finishing point for services listed in the timetable, services from Cleethopres/Grimsby Town never venture past Newark

There must be a lot of timetables that don't have services running from one extreme to the other - there's probably no direct train from Aberdeen to Bournemouth but they are on the same XC leaflet.

Similarly, there are a lot of timetables where the far end of the "branch" isn't a "major starting/finishing point" but only gets a handful of services.

I don't think that EMT have done anything wrong here.
