An automated announcement heard at Blackhorse Road this morning

"Please stand behind the yellow line when using your mobiles and smartphones"

I wonder if there have been any incidents of people getting too close to the platform edge whilst glued to their phone.

It certainly happens on the street where people bump into you or step off the edge of the pavement without looking.

A circular went out to Victoria line staff the other week asking them to make such announcements.

Not sure if there's any specific problems (although it is a more frequent than daily occurrence), but with up to 33tph during the peaks, stopping one train to retrieve an expensive telephone can cause big problems, and that's even assuming it can be retrieved without turning off the traction current.

It'll only be a matter of time before some smart@r$e interprets that as meaning it is perfectly safe to stand right on the platform edge if you're not babbling into a mobile phone.

I think a mobile phone was involved in the 14 year old girl ending up on the track at Brixton...
