For anyone interested, I gather 37516 should do the Carnforth-Crewe leg of this tour tonight.

Train terminated at York on the return after the kettle set fire to half of Yorkshire.

Geordie is quoting diesels on their way across from Carnforth to York to pick up the tour (expected departure 20.15), yet real time trains gives it as cancelled. Whatever the situation, I feel sorry for the passengers and the guys at Compass.

37516 worked it York-Crewe. Departed just after 2130, arrived at Skipton around 2300, before continuing to Carnforth and the WCML.

Excellent run.

On another forum, the following point has been made.

To me this begs the question...

What was WCRs contingency plan in the event of mechanical failure out on the mainline?

Given that...

The nearest available vacuum braked diesel loco was Carnforth.
