What's the best ever April Fool you've had a good old chuckle at?

I will never forget in RAIL Magazine that Railtours were going to be hauled by Track Machines!

When I looked at my diagram for today I had to check the date - unfortunately it was not an Aprils Fool!

The best railway one was many years ago (early '80s?) in Steam Railway magazine.

Apparently City of Truro was to be painted black...

Cue a plethora of ranting and frothing in the letters column from furious GWR types making wild accusations of heresy and sacrilege, and best of all a (tongue in cheek) letter decrying the wasting of good LNWR black paint on "oddly shaped engines"...

This would make me misbehave. There are numerous better role models who could be used. Personally I have no time for Rio and some of his background issues. (this is without even considering recent issues)

At that school most year 9 boys were the sporty football types....

Now many years ago, but the spaghetti trees on BBC TV (with the late Richard Dimbleby) are hard to beat.

Wasn't it actually painted half black at the SVR?

In 1986, Rail Enthusiast magazine mentioned that 31200 was being named 'Railtour Enterprise'. The funniest bit of the story wasn't the April fool itself, but a rival magazine listing the ficticious naming in its 'stock changes' column.

More recently one of the magazines (I think it was Heritage Railway) had a story that water troughs were being laid on the Great Western Main Line for steam specials.

Crewe heritage centre put on Facebook that the APT is running today for the first time in a while and although not under it's own power, it will be at Euston. I fell hook-line-sinker for it and told my dad and then it suddenly clicked, it was 1st of April. :D

Not April fools but something else that got me completely and that I fell for was David's dodgy Facebook link in this post in this thread. Sent him an angry message and then he replied and I'd completely fell for his little prank :D  Completely had me on that one :D

Several shenanigans in the depot yesterday. I only received three death threats by lunchtime, which is an improvement on previous years.... :o I expect my locker to be relocated to the car park my pigeon hole to be filled (completely) with used tickets when I book on for my next shift. Quite predictable

One of two. Either a story about a penguin found on the Thames in London a few years ago (in a certain rubbish red top), or a certain text message I received yesterday which was ruined by me having my phone off until 15:45.

Sorry to the person on here who sent said text message ;)

One I fell for a few years ago on the BBC, the Grand National and the Derby will alternate venues every year from now on. I announced it to everyone in a certain Bournemouth boarding house, and some of them fell for it as well (not many were Radio 4 listeners, they thought I had made it up).
