Absolutely gutted failed the reaction and coordination test yesterday even though I had practised on the program that's available on the web I think I panicked when it went fast at the end ah well have to wait another 6 months now before I can apply again probably have to go through all the tests again. And that's if my application passes the initial sift.

Welcome & unlucky dude.

I know it's not easy to take in and can constantly be on your mind but you need to put it behind you and make a good go of it next time.

Even though you have lost a life line chances are they may get reset, from what people are saying about the whole assessment changing.

Were you told there and then?

All in all you should be proud of yourself for getting this far:smile:

Just out interest which TOC did you sit the assessments with and how many candidates were there?

The assessment was for FGW there were about 10 of us altogether but two were only doing the SI for the second time. Seems that if you pass all the paper tests and computer test and fail the SI you only have to do that one again.

Note: on the basis of the TOCs discretion, since the 2 candidates you mentioned had already applied with FGW previously, they (FGW) used their discretion and allowed them to retake the SI.

Had they applied with another TOC then it's a whole difference ball game.

Maybe you should have done some research on this forum prior to your test? You must be gutted that you failed, read this post http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=77878&page=5

I used bop it exteme and drove my wife mad for months and also formula 1 game on Xbox which helped a great deal

I also agree with TDK on his other post that when the test starts to go seriously quick do not hit out at anthing just stop for a cou[ple moments and gain your composure and then start again. Do not panic

Just to add to that, it is also important you don't try to play catchup with the machine. For example if you see a yellow on the screen and then a blue before youv've had a chance to press yellow, you then just press blue and continue from there. What you must not do is think along the lines of...I'd better press the yellow before pressing blue. This would be logged as an error as you've pressed the yellow button whilst the screen was showing a blue.

I did the test 2 weeks ago and let around 3 aspects go before getting back into it. Lost my rythm a second time and let another couple go. I think I missed around 5 in total and pressed the wrong button on 2 or 3 occasions.

And did you pass? If so, what grade?

I've just done my assessment for the second time after my first ran out after 5 years. I used the practice software and managed to keep up and got a very high pass so it can be done.

Edit: that sounds rather arrogant. What I mean is with enough practice it can be done.

Which is exactly what you needed to hear no doubt! :D

Too right. Knowing how many I'd missed/got wrong and not knowing how many I was allowed to miss/get wrong was quite frightening for the 25 minutes I had to sweat waiting for my results.

That is the exact point of the test getting faster and faster. Its designed so that you WILL lose your way at some point so they can assess how you get back on track.

As you say, playing catch up is the last thing you should do and pretty much gaurentees a fail.
