Redundant tanks finally leaving Barnetby

The former oxygen tanks which have been stored at the sidings next to Wrawby Junction Signalbox (Barnetby) since 1997, are finally leaving for scrap. The first left last Friday and one left on Tuesday

Being removed as part of the resignalling plan which includes removing the semaphores

Road, two tanks were moved out on Thursday (not Tuesday)
But they're not going far because one tank left, then four hours later the lorry arrived back at Barnetby to collect another tank

I'd be interested to know who owned the tanks and given the value of scrap metal, why they have managed to last so long! Having stood there since in 1997 it's unlikely that NR would have allowed them to be removed by rail.

Some of them were home to trees!

Well exactly! When is the resignalling due to take place? I remember the BOC tanks running via the Woodhead route to somewhere in Sheffield. More freight that over the last few decades the railway has lost.

Wow, will seem strange going past without those being there! I didn't realise resignalling was on the cards (although it was obviously inevitable eventually), do you know when this is supposedly happening?

Very sad news, and as for the Barnetby resignalling, I was expecting it to be done at some point but never thought it was due any time soon?

By 2015, were to be controlled by York Signalling Centre
Totally agree Jordy, these are like the furniture. They moved there from Ditton the year is was born so I wont be used to them not being there

Is York controlling all the way to Cleethorpes and are they closing all the signal boxes?

At Barnetby the TEA, BOC Liquid Nitrogen tanks are at last moving only six left at 15:30 today (Sat 23 March). They are been put on too lowloaders. I saw one leave and another being put on.
Where they are going, I was told, but forgot.

I often wondered why these were withdrawn in the first place as I used to see them run over the Woodhead route to Sheffield. I'm guessing that the decline of the steel industry in Sheffield caused their demise?

Where they are going, I was told, but forgot.

Only two left now and one of these is being hauled onto to a lorry as I type this. Apparently they are, in the first instance, destined for Harworth where they will be dismantled and the railway running gear scrapped. The tanks will then be moved to Immingham from where they will be exported to India.
