Just seen the chunky lad from Gavin and Stacey frolicking around BBC television centre as part of red nose day. I wonder, is this the last occasion we'll see tv centre as part of a national occasion as it's about to be sold off. I'll be very sad not to see it's clunky Macmillan era architecture on the screen again as it speaks to a sense of optimism and modernity of a certain era,and as a BBC viewer for several decades, a fair amount of nostalgia.

It's the last live broadcast from Television Centre... the last BBC News at 1800 from TV Centre was today, it is moving over to the New Broadcasting House launching Monday.

I somehow doubt that £200 million paid for the cost of relocating to MediaCityUK in Salford (worst name ever) and the refurbishment of Broadcasting House. Although I tend to take it with a pinch of salt, Private Eye has regularly been reporting low staff morale at Salford and while I get the argument for making the BBC more 'regional', surely it's better to concentrate the majority of your facilities in one location? I'd hate to imagine how much is now being spent on transport between London and Manchester...

It is said that £200 million was paid to the BBC for the building. What is the new use proposed for it by the buyers?

Hotel mainly, as well as other things such as a cinema. The studios will be retained and maintained though, being leased out to companies that need to use them, including the BBC ironically.

The refurbishment and extension of Broadcasting House has cost around £1,000 million, but this was planned and started many years before the decision to move out of TV Centre.
