Does anyone know if the 1010 from York this Sunday (0937 ex DON) is to be dragged by a 67?

It's down on realtimetrains as timed for a 100mph diesel. I thought it might be a HST with the diversion but the rest of the services say HST.

I'm booked on it but didn't realise at the time..

It is, yes. Dragged between Doncaster and Newcastle. Journey between Northallerton and Newcastle is via the Durham Coast.

Have heard a 67 is doing a drag via Sunderland tomorrow, so it could well be. I had thought there were guaging issues at Sunderland for Mk 4 coaches but it sounds like it isn't going to be an issue :)

EDIT: Beaten to it!

Oh so the 67 will be on as it pulls into York as well.. cool.

Another query, I'm assuming this will be the Donny thunderbird doing the drag, so when it gets to Newcastle where will it go? Assuming it'll be doing a drag the other way at some point but there's obviously already one stabled at Newcastle.

It will be a Newcastle thunderbird, which dragged the 1714 from Newcastle to Donny on Saturday and stayed overnight.

Has been the case every weekend since 16th February.

That makes sense, thanks for clearing that up. Though, would it necessarily be the same one that goes back up the next day, as there'd be 2 at Donny overnight?

Looking forward to the trip out anyway, not been on the Durham coast line before. Nice route?

The Durham Coast route is never given much credit for it's scenery but it's a very pleasant line I find - from Stockton to Sunderland it offers views of the North Sea to the east and fairly nice countryside to the West for about 95% of the time. Shame about Hartlepool in the middle ;)

Haha , I've been to Hartlepool by car before. It's not the worst place I've ever been by a long chalk.

I'm sat on an individual seat in first class, think it's east side, so nice sea views hopefully.

Does this route pass the Stadium of Light? Not that I'm a Sunderland fan, but never seen the ground in person. I think I saw it mentioned in the timings when I looked it up the other day. Which side if so?

I wouldn't expect too much between Newcastle and Sunderland either. Although you have the bridge at Newcastle and the bridge over the Wear at St Peters just after leaving Sunderland isn't too bad either :)

Yes. If memory serves correct (I travelled on the Metro only on Tuesday!) it will be on the left travelling towards Newcastle (you can see it from the aforementioned bridge by St Peters)

The panto on the 91 has to be physically strapped down as I understand it, presumably due to the T&W OHLE.

How do they achieve that, as presumably no-one is allowed anywhere near the panto with the OHLE in the Doncaster/York area?

Do they have to stop on an unelectrified stretch between Northallerton and Sunderland to do it?

I thought that Class 67's were capable of 125mph. Are they only allowed to go 100mph when hauling the 225's? Are they ever allowed to go 125?

If its the skyfall 91 maybe a fitter will climb onto the roof on the move to save stopping..

They can haul MK4 rakes at up to 100MPH.

Today's run should be 67024 - this will mean that that both 67024 and 67019 (which is currently in the Doncaster area) will be stabled at Doncaster overnight. One of the two will work 1S07 tomorrow morning.

Why aren't they allowed to do 125mph?

Well for one thing a 67 would be unlikely to be able to haul a full 225 rake at 125mph even if it was allowed to do so. I also have a feeling that they use a screw coupling which isn't rated for high speeds. But I'm very happy to be corrected on that last point!

From what I read elsewhere, the suggestion seemed to be they can't go near Sunderland even if diesel hauled due to a guaging issue (I thus assumed with clearances between platform and coach)

I would have thought the physical strapping down is to prevent any potential contact with the OHLE's as I don't think coming into contact with a 1500V DC overhead with do either the loco or overheads much good!

How they do it, I have no idea (but would be intrigued to find out)...let's hope they haven't got 91114 else it will be double the amount of work to do

Well they've been doing this route for several weekends now so I think you might have got duff info ;)

Unless there some route from the Durham Coast Line that avoids Sunderland station?

Why's that? Aren't they powerful enough for it?

Correct, nine Mk4s, plus locomotive, plus DVT is a lot of weight for a 67 to be hauling by itself.

I can 100% confirm that the drags have been via Sunderland station - lost of very bemused passengers on the platform!

Not looking terribly promising, waiting for it at York and its showing as 'delayed' - not even a time just that! Anyone know what's happened to it?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Just been announced as a technical fault with the train at Doncaster. Guessing the 67 and 225 aren't getting on well.

Whilst waiting had the unusual sight of 91113 ploughing straight through northbound at about 40mph ECS, and extra bonus EMT power car 43061 on an east coast set.

Yep currently around 50 down. Interestingly 67020 turned up so wonder what happened to 019 and 024, wonder if there was a failure leading to the delay.

EC have redeemed themselves by giving (reasonably) good info at york regarding the problem, and drink + sandwich offered within minutes of leaving York. Good stuff

I didn't know that! I thought that the Thunderbirds were capable of hauling the 225's at 125mph (and were chosen because of this capability).

Out of interest, how did the Class 47's cope when hauling the 225's? (I know they have a top speed of 95mph).

67024 stayed on the front of 1G55 through to Kings Cross yesterday, due to a fault with 91101.

As a result, the T'birds along the route were moved as necessary to allow coverage at all the normal locations to be maintained - hence '020 appearing at Doncaster.

The delay to 1S07 this morning was due to a fault with 67019 (which was originally to haul this service).

Great info, thanks for that.

You mean to say the skip I chose to renumber my Hornby model to last weekend, caused me to be 30 mins late ??

It was my favourite - not anymore!

Forgot to mention this - definitely no physical strapping visible on the pantograph , unless it was removed in the time it took me to walk up the platform. The pantograph was started normally from the cab.
