Hi Adele and welcome to the forum. I don't work for Southern but suggest you have a good read through of the "sticky" threads at the tops of the forum, as well as other threads, since all the info you need is there. The Group Bourdon one could be particularly useful, with a link to practice material.
Best of luck and keep us posted!
Hi Adele, sat the Southern Assessmet last year and not there wasn't any Mechanical Comprehension Test AT THAT TIME. Just study the material sent out to you well and use the resources on this site to prepare. The biggest fear to overcome is that if the unknown as this is the first time you have been through this process. Prepare well and you have a very good chance of getting through this stage. Good luck.
Remember accuracy is key. You get two minutes per sheet anyway.I've been practising the GB but only get as far as the 7th row per sheet before the 1min timer goes off (though i didnt miss any cluster of 4dots!)
You are scored on how many marked on the GB as I failed it the first time round.
I'm a driver at southern currently doing my hours drop me a pm and I will help you as much as I can
Don't get too flustered by what other people say you "should" achieve. Keep practising but don't give yourself brain overload. 7 rows with no errors or omissions at all is an excellent base to build on and if you can get up to 9 rows per page this would be a good target. Most importantly, make sure you get plenty of rest the night before the assessment. Give yourself the day off practising and just ensure you're well prepared for where you're going etc. on the day.
Thanks Vicpaul. Will be nice if you can tell me how it works seeing as you're part of the coy already
