It means you'll be working 38 hrs per week.(why EMT have a 38 hr week when most of the rest of the rail industry is on 35 hrs I really do not know)

24 hr roster means the shifts include nights and days.

My understanding of that is your basic working week will average 38 hours made up of shifts covering any of the 24 hours of the day and the rota will include Sundays as a normal working day (ie Not at overtime rate). I'm sure someone else can put it better !!

Interviews will take place in Derby week commencing 25th March 2013, with a planned start date of 22nd April 2013 when the 15 week training programme will commence, of which full attendance is compulsory.


Sometime between the 8th and the 25th. That's only 2 weeks of waiting!!!

Good luck to everyone who has applied. The 7 years I did as a depot driver for EMT (and MML) were fantastic. Great company to work for, they stay off your back unless you do anything really bad in which case you kinda expect it! The guys who take you for training really are great guys too, the way they run the course is outstanding (so I've been told!).

I am new to this forum and have also applied for one of the EMT Depot Driver vacancies. It'll be great to stay in touch with people in the same boat as me.

This is my first ever railway application, as I've been waiting for quite a while for one to appear in my area.

I know you're all potentially competition, lol, but I'd like to wish anyone applying the best of luck. On a far more brighter note, you could all potentially be colleagues too.

I sent my application by recorded post on Wednesday. Not received any response as yet... I assume you applied by post too? I couldn't find any application online, only the snail mail method. LB

I also sent mine in on Wednesday, First Class. I've not received any sort of acknowledgement either. Having said that, they're probably sending emails out as people are being entered into their system.

That's a lot manual keying to do if they've got as many applicants as I expect they will have.

We'll probably see the acknowledgement later this evening (if they're still at work) or tomorrow.

Interesting how soon the start date is though, as most people will have a notice period in their current job. Makes me wonder if people are already in place for these positions.....

You're right there, I'd most likely only be able to work two of the four weeks required by my current employer. (I was really hoping I'd have a short break between the jobs too so I can prepare myself for the training.)

I reckon the quick start date would have be down to staffing issues as opposed to people being in place for the positions already (wishful thinking), although I do not doubt there would be internal candidates.

Anyway, time will tell with regards specifics.

You emailed your application form in and received an automated response.

I guess those of us who posted the form in won't hear anything until it's a pass/fail for the paper sift.

Thanks Stuart for clearing that up for me, I've stopped worrying now about the form still sitting at a Royal Mail depot, lol.

EDIT: Just read at the top of the page that you posted it. Strange about receiving a 'Thank you for your email.' Like you said earlier, very 'generic' lol. Unless they were actually responding to an email you may have sent them.

I too paid £6.90 for a Royal Mail special delivery and since hearing that Stuart-H had an email reply, had been wondering if there was a letter from me on a Royal Mail van - underneath a black and white cat, pottering around Derby. Ah, that's where all our emails went! lol. Did you email your form in or have any email contact with EMT? Just trying to determine why some are getting automated responses and others aren't hearing a pip.

It could be that they're slowly sifting through the (probable Mount Everest size pile of) application forms and sending emails out as people are entered onto their system though.

Hi,
For those of you who paid loads a money for a recorded/special delivery you can check whether your letter has been received by going onto www.royal.com and entering your recorded/special delivery (it maybe on the receipt from the post office) number in the box under the track and trace title. From there it should tell you whether it was delivered, you may even be able to see a signature.
Unfortuanately for me I went with the cheapo option!!
Hope that helps to put some minds at rest.
