Evening, I was looking at this link http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/booking_horizons.html and the different days each train company is selling to.

Of course that doesn't answer my question, but I did use it last week to book a Grand central service to Sunderland (from Kings Cross) on the 18th May. However, it took a few days for a number of websites (Grand Central, Red spotted hanky, Southern just to name a few I tried) to update to the said dates on that link.

I'm looking to come back from Newcastle after 6.30pm (to London) on the 19th May. Any idea when East coast will release these tickets?

And for further reference, when do other train companies usually release their advance tickets?

Thanks in advance

I'm also waiting for tickets to Newcastle to go on sale on 19 May, probably for the same reason as you going by your username :)

The tickets will probably go on sale this Sunday or early next week. As a rule it's 12 weeks before the date of travel, but sometimes the tickets go on sale later than this, particularly at weekends when there may be engineering work which alters the timetable.

Thanks for the reply.

Haha, judging by my username? No no, I'll be coming home from Newcastle Arsenal.

I've read before it's a Thursday...but no joy today.

Anyone have any knowledge on the issue?

They are released in 7 day batches usually on Fridays. Although if you try and make a pattern from it you usually come unstuck because its not always the same from week to week due to extra engineering works etc.

So will I - I assumed you sat in block 6 at home! I'll PM you if I spot the tickets on sale.

Oh no, not quite (my old uni block), but fair enough! Only a lowly silver member, but a friend will be able to get me a ticket for the game. Nice one mate, cheers.

Hopefully they'll go on sale tomorrow.

Any chance of getting a single for £9.95 (16-25)?

Yes, as you say, Thursday has been mentioned, but recently it seems to be Friday. At first I thought they were late, but the past few weeks it has consistently been a Friday. It can happen at any time though, so keep checking.

Only if EC's revenue management skills are a lot worse than I thought, given the fixture.

However, given the cost of your home game ticket prices, it is unlikely that 2 x single rail tickets and a ticket at St James' would cost more than a home game ;)

If I'm quick off the mark, how cheap do you think they will be?

Haha! Well I think 21quid would be cheaper than all teams in the prem.

While £62 is a sickening price to watch football, just as many games in the league are £25 at Arsenal. Depends on the opposition. Defending the indefensible really though

The cheapest East Coast Advance single is £16.85 (King's Cross - Newcastle). The next tiers up are £28.50 and £38. EC have complete freedom to decide the number of tickets (quota) sold at each price for a given train and aren't obliged to sell any Advances.

(with Railcard: £11.10, £18.80, £25).

OT: I've paid around £20 for Arsenal games twice in the last two seasons (although both were away cup games and one was a Tuesday night).

a, why go to 5under1and? there's nothing to see there

b, my season ticket at NUFC cost me £520 this season, working out at £27.36 per game. I guess Arsenal mustn't be so much of a glamour fixture these days if your ticket is costing you only £21 ;)
Still, at least you'll bring fans, unlike Aston Vile, who brought less fans to SJP earlier in the season than we took to Metalist last week (and we only had 3 weeks notice!!)

Hope you enjoy Newcastle though (except the game!!), I know I'm biased, but I f***in LOVE the place

@block6panger - tickets are on sale now. The £18.80 Railcard fare is currently available on the 18.25 (might be a bit tight), 20.00 and 20.32 departures from Newcastle so be quick!

Cheers mate. I've booked the 20.00 one. I was trying spilts and all sorts. Saved about £1 waiting at Doncaster, but thought I'd rather just stay on the train (probably with other miserable gooners after missing out on a champions league spot)..

Also Yorkie, you mention EC advance management. I suppose we never know how many tickets they release in each price bracket? Is there a minimum amount of tickets they have to put at the lowest price, or is this only for a Tuesday afternoon for example?

Advance fares are not at all regulated in any way, so they can decide to release as many, or as few, at any particular price point, as they like.

People who book regularly for journeys at particular times get to know what the usual availability is. Sporting events can influence their decisions (and, arguably, that's the way it should be!)

Sometimes EC don't release the cheapest tiers at certain days/times initially and if sales are slow, release cheaper tickets the following week. This was most noticeable during the Olympic Games.

Splitting at Newark or Grantham can be cheaper.
