Hi i am just wondering what people think are the most beneficial qualifications for working as a tech the rail way? Civil engineering HNC? CAD? Something else ? Would be very interesting to hear what people have done and what roles they are emolyed in. Cheers for all replies and hope it sparks some interesting dhats on here.

For engineering roles depot based -
Train Tech -time served apprenticeship either mechanical/electrical along with NVQ level 3 certificate/ BTEC ONC and above will get you through the sifting stage normally.
There are semi skilled roles/assistant roles that if you get the job without any of the above criteria after certain amount of time you can progress to Technicians role but not always.
If you have a background from the armed forces this always helps as well.
Graduates tend to come from university and into future management roles i assume with a degree.
