Hello all, Just wondered where I will be best going away from leicester and nuneaton for a change of traffic.

I am getting bored of the normal Leicester traffic and more freight and passenger variety would be welcomed.

any recommended locations?

cheers,

Bruce

Willesden Junction is good for variety.

You can get Class 66's, 67's, 70's, 73's, 86's, 90's and 92's on freight traffic through there as well as a variety of EMU's.

Otherwise there is Carlisle, similiar to the above minus the 73's.

Doncaster is also pretty good for a reasonable selection with 7 TOCs passing through, plus freight.

All the WCML freight plus some coal and departmentals heading down to the West Midlands with a mix of 60s, 66s, 70s, 86s, 90s and 92s. Also get Pendolinos, Voyagers, and 350s
Thanks, Sam

Peterborough - freight, Loco Hauled passenger trains and HSTs and a variety of Multiple Units.

Derby - freight from the Birmingham line as well as Voyagers and Cross Country HSTs.

Water Orton - a plentiful supply of freight and at the junction of the Derby and Leicester lines on the outskirts of Birmingham.

Ipswich - Freightliner locos on the stabling point and 1/2 hourly loco hauled passenger services. Also a range of 153/156/170/321/360 Multiple Units.

Ely - Passenger services dominated by Multiple Units (158s, 170s and 365s) but there is quite a bit of freight that passes.

York - Very good for passenger services (IC125s, IC225s, 185s, 158s, Pacers, 150s) and freight taking the avoider can be seen from the end of platform 11/12.

Tamworth - Just up the line from Nuneaton, but also with the Cross Country line too.

Essentially, it depends on your interests, but the above provide a good range in my opinion (and all within 1 change from Leicester).

It is nice to get a change from a procession of Class 66s, Meridians and Turbostars that we have to put up with in Leicester (although the 20s on the Tube Stock make a nice change).

Alot GBRf 66s pass Doncaster, makes a change from DRS 66s, for you.

So too would Peterbrough, especially as you'd pass the depot, although the GBRf fleet is that stretched in the week that normally around 42/45 examples are out.
I recommend, if you want to see loco convoys in your part of the world, there's two GBRF convoys on a Saturday between Doncaster Depot and Peterbrough depot so your best bet to see them would be Retford, Newark or Grantham. Let's just say, the variety is liveries is good but the passenger trains vary from HST, 91s, 153s, 142s (Retford) and 158s, 170s, 317s and 365s (at Peterbrough). Also you may get a DBS loco convoy heading to Whitemoor.
Oh, and although it dosent get many passengers (hourly 185s, 2 hourly 153s), Barnetby is good place with some 60s, and lots of 66s. There are a few convoys through their on a Saturday as well.
p.s. I'm happy, because after nearly 3 years of spotting on the WCML I finally got my last DRS 66, 66421 :p
Thanks, Sam

We (and therefore, for the most part, Leicester too), already see plenty of 66s in red, blue and the correct shade of green. Gets a bit monotonous sometimes, but, as long as there's a tail lamp on the other end, life goes on!

Don't we all, I mean there are (counts them up) approx 360 examples left in Britain. There like a swarm of ants on a hot summers day (the inner poet )
Thanks, Sam
