As you know one of the most frustrating things on borders/welsh rail network is the Chester line trains disappearing off Platform 4B at Shrewsbury as the arrival from Aberystwyth pulls into 4A. You may be interested to know that UP trains on the Cambrian now arrive early at Newtown by anything up to 5 mins and wait time. The Cambrian still has the retb tt with ertms and work associated with it reducing SRT's. NR are also planning this year to abolish AOCL at Forden and turn it into foot crossing raising 40mph speed limit through there and raise speeds at Newtown West points to 40 mph.

Mid Wales could be better connected to NE Wales before 2015.

I fully agree, ill table this question to the Guest Speaker, I am also fully aware of the large numbers who travel to to Wrexham & Chester off the Cambrian, yet have to wait an hour for a connection at Salop. This is very annoying for those visiting the Hospital at Gobowen & travel by car due to this very reason.

I would say it is the Holyhead/Chester service that needs to be retimed and not the Cambrian, the Birmingham connects OK but the Cambrian normally has to wait for the Brum train to arrive before it can enter the station and as it is signalled into the bay this also adds time due to speed restrictions on the approach to the stops.

Are you also going to riase the problem with the connection to Shrewsbury when the VT (ATW path) train is running late as a lot of people have to wait for up to an hour to continue their journey?

Yes I will, this VT service to Wrexham, causes a lot of problems and is in fact just a local service to 99% of passengers who board at Chester, then find the connection from Wrexham to Salop wont wait if the VT is only minutes late.

Before ATW gave up the path to VT (we know why) it was an ATW Chester to Salop service six days a week, still runs Saturdays, and causes grief when the VT is late, we managed to get ATW to run the service on Bank holidays from Easter this year as VT finally admitted it wont run a BH service to Wrexham, I would not be surprised to see this five car set put on the Shrewsbury run from December, ATW have the 150 spare to run from Chester which idles for two hours in Wrexham General when it comes off the Bidston run then runs as the 2047 Wrexham/Salop.

Be interesting to get Bagshaw's view on the VT Shrewsbury-Stafford-Euston plans.
My guess is that one of the reasons for the Stafford shuffle avoiding Wolverhampton and Birmingham is to separate out the VT traffic and not cause any bother on paths or Orcats with ATW/LM through the West Mids.
If ATW object to the service it will be sour grapes indeed!
I will try and get to the meeting.

Surely the Birminghams would be better going to Man Pic and the Cardiffs to Holyhead however I do not know what the Franchise agreement is with a service only serving 4 Welsh stations out of 15 stations with the existing Llandudno services retimes to go to Holyhead instead with a shuttle to Llandudno. That would make them hell of lot more money.

ATW will need grounds for objection - is VT actually running a non profit business currently?
