Hello,

I am planning a trip which will involve arriving into Aberystwyth at 1520 on Saturday 2nd March. However, National Rail and Open Train Times show to next train out of there at 1730, but the Arriva Timetable and Real Time Trains show the next train as at 1530. My question is, will the 1530 run or will I have to wait for the 1730. What is there to do in Aberystwyth for 2 hours if this is the case?

Thanks

There is a Wetherspoons at the "block end" of the platform and beyond that is half the total history of Wales including a wonderful vista of Cardigan bay. Oh! I forgot the VoR railway!

The above poster is correct. They go every 2hrs from 07:30 until 23:30 IIRC although the 23:30 only goes to Machynellth, so the last useful train is 21:30.

As to what to do in Aberystwyth I just finished three years university there. There are all manner of pubs to go to. My recommendation would be the Ship and Castle which is on High Street (although it may not be open that time of day), great for real ales. Also the is Royal Pier, enjoy a pint in a Victorian pier perched above the Irish Sea (that did have a Monday-Saturday 24hr license). If you are not after pubs. Lovely beach, cliff railway up Constitution Hill to a Camera Obscura above the town. Vale of Rheidol railway. Some short but worthwhile walks to the cliff tops. A castle with wonderful war memorial. Many many churches. An old style penny arcade. Two cinemas. Great fry ups from Upper Limit cafe.

So there is some stuff to do!

Some is but it's not depressing. Especially Aberystwyth Old College. It looks like Hogwarts.

The seafronts had some refurbishment and a lot of property near the cliff railway has been converted into student accommodation.

NB last train to Shrewsbury is 1930, 2130 only gets to Mach though if you come in at 1520 you'll go out at 1530.

Thanks for the help. It did seem strange that the journey planner ommitted this journey though. Might spend the time in the town though and leave on the 1730. Could do with a short break from trains as the move that day will involve Holyhead-Llandudno Jn-Blaneau-Porthmadog-Pwhelli-machynlleth-Aberystwyth-Shrewsbury.

And/or you could bus Machynlleth-Aberystwyth to avoid the hour's wait at Mach and the double-back. That's assuming you're on a NWales rover?

I have E-Mailed ATW re the obvious omission from Journey Planner. They usually put the blame, quite rightly so it has been proved in past caes, on Network Rail. However, our contact is the TOC and they should deal with likewiseand involve Network Rail as required.

If you look at http://www.opentraintimes.com/schedule/P40963 you can see that the 1530 is shown with a schedule variation on 2nd March. When you click on the VAR link it actually comes up with the 1700 NCL-KGX, so it appears that two trains have been given the same reference number by mistake and one is overwriting the other.

Interesting, as you shouldnt be able to upload with a duplicate UID, the system flags it up.

15 30 now in Journey Planner. ATW replied to my E-Mail and merely told me that the train was running and which we were already 99.9% certain it was. There was no reference to Journey Planner/Booking engine but I have checked and it is now there.
