replacement vs changeover

Hi all,

I purchased an annual gold card back in October for Newmarket to London Terminals from Cambridge station (operated by Greater Anglia), when I purchased it the ticket came out the clerk's printer without a photocard number, and he then wrote my photocard number in the gap with a biro.

Last night I was confronted by a FCC RPI, who was really not happy with the biro photocard number.
He had a good go at ripping the card apart to try to prove I had tampered with it.
I eventually convinced him that it was genuine, and he then gave it back to me, instructing me I would have to get it replaced with a printed photocard number (he also damaged it in the process, so now it does look dodgy).

I don't have a problem doing this, but am slightly concerned that I'll end up with a ticket marked REPLACEMENT, which I will then have issues getting refunded/changed over in future.

Alternatively I have been thinking for a while about getting a changeover to Kennett station. It has a less frequent service, but is quite a bit closer to my home (very useful when I get a taxi when I'm staying away from home).
The difference is only £30/year, so I could do this instead.

So my questions are:

If I get a straight replacement will I have a annual season ticket marked REPLACEMENT?
If it is marked REPLACEMENT will I have issues in the future getting a changeover/refund?
If I get a changeover instead of a replacement does this make future changeovers/refunds problematic/do I lose out financially?

Thanks!

Someone will be along soon to answer your specific points, but remember that a season from Kennett to London will aslo be valid to board/alight at Newmarket, so for £30 more it's good value.

I'm sure that replacements where the old one is surrendered do not affect refunds or changeovers. It's only where you lose the ticket and there is a chance that two people will be roving around on effectively the same ticket that they object. And even then, if you find and return the original within a few weeks it makes things better.

100% correct. More specifically, if you are issued a Duplicate, you'll usually only get a refund (or second Duplicate for that matter) if the original ticket is returned within one month of the Duplicate being issued.

And don't forget to complain to First Capital Connect about the actions of their RPI.

I thought about complaining, but it does look a little iffy and he was just doing his job.

Thanks

oh, one more thing, the NRE season ticket page (http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/seasonticket/search) for KNE->LST has two options, one for "Travel must involve passing through or changing at Cambridge." and one without that restriction.

just curious what the other valid route would be if there wasn't that restriction? via Stowmarket?

That's correct. You can go via Stowmarket on the Route Any Permitted ticket.

so I did this, and now my delay repay claims result in 2/3rds of what the previous amount as the purchase value on the ticket is 2/3rds of what it used to be...

sigh!

Delay Repay on season tickets are worked out on a proportional daily rate depending on the season ticket price, so the less you pay, the less you are compensated for per journey.

yes, but that's not what's happened here, as the overall annual cost of my ticket has increased!

I swapped the £4578 ticket for a £4600 one a third of the way through the year.

The ticket now has "8mo", and ~£4600*(2/3) on the front (the amount of value still remaining on the ticket).

they're then assuming this is over a year (40 * 7 paid for days), when in fact it's only over 8 months.

they should be instead be working out the proportional proportional cost, i.e. (8/12) * (40 * 7), and dividing by that instead.

admittedly it's only £2 here and there, but something for other people to be aware of (swapping for a much more expensive ticket late in their year could cost a lot in lost DR claims)

I think that the delay repay people just need to be informed that they have made an error. I think you can upload your season into a delay repay account with FCC, so hopefully you'll just need to do it once.
