Hi,

I am out and about at the moment so cannot check the easements easily, but have this question.
Next week, I will be travelling from Shipley [SHY] to ALM using a SVR (£61.70), but need to stop off at MPT on the way home. Apart from a few trains either very early in the morning or late in the evening there are no direct trains between ALM and MPT, so in order to make the journey around lunchtime on a weekday I will need to travel via NCL.
As no direct service is available for many hours, is via Newcastle a valid route, or will it be considered doubling back (and a NCL-MPT SDR needed to complete my journey)?

Thanks in advance!

Are you using the outward or the return portion?

No, it's not valid sorry!

I'd recommend getting the X15 bus to Morpeth, particularly if you're actually travelling from Alnwick. It's much faster than getting the train to Newcastle and back, and you can use your current ticket on the train from Morpeth.

I concur. While you can break your journey at Morpeth as you are on your return portion, there is no easement permitting you doubling back at Newcastle. You will need an additional ticket to travel via Newcastle.

If the OP is travelling from Shipley so as to depart Darlington after 09:30 (or at any time at the weekend), then it would be £1.60 cheaper to split at Darlington, using an '8A' SVR from Shipley to Darlington, and a '3V' SVR from Darlington to Almouth.

The trains would need to stop at Darlington in both directions, but I believe that all relevant trains would do so.

Though I should also point out that the X18 bus, though slower than the X15 is still faster than the train and may be more convenient from Alnmouth itself.
