Yup, my current boss-man did it on Tuesday. Had an e-mail from Emily telling me that she's dealing with it. I phoned them and spoke to Sheila who said that she would speak to Emily when she came in, as she sounded less than chuffed that my references hadn't been done.

I attended an assessment day in Birmingham in the autumn & was advised that I would be contacted for a possible interview before the end of January 2013.

I've just received an e-mail from LM inviting me to interview which will be at Crewe station. Does anyone know whereabouts I need to go once at the station to make myself known to the appropriate people?

Cheers!

Could ask a member of staff at Crewe Station who might be able to point you in the right direction

Don't know if this helps but I pick up from the London midland office every week. As you walk in Crewe station, go straight ahead and you will have the option to go left to stations 1-11 or right to station 12. Go right, its a long corridor past all the lifts. Head for the stairs, once you get down the stairs keep walking straight ahead. At the end of the platform there's a glass..... thing. Looks like a conservatory with stairs going below the platform somewhere. go past this and its the next door on the right. It says London midland on it.

Don't know if that's where you need to go but I think it is.

Hi
I looked at the website by chance this week as I've just been told I'm out of a job next week :( as the place I'm working is closing due to lack of funding. I've got an interview for Wednesday it looks like its a group interview. Its for Brum and its London Midland.

Anyone can tell me what happens? I'm a bit worried as I've seen we have an opc assessment. I've been keeping accounts for the last twelve years but I'm not good with timed sessions and my dyslexia kicks in and I misread and panic.

Any ideas how to cope?

Many thanks!

Cheers - thanks for the assistance. Hopefully, LM will send something before the due date to confirm the details.

Spoke to LM HR today, they seemed to have forgotten to send my reference requests as she did them whilst on the phone! At least they've been sent now!

Hi Guyz

I've just had my interview on Monday 21st January and waiting for the outcome. However when I logged in to my LM account to see any update and clicked on the interview centre. Guess what guys??? It says choose interview slot between march 4th to March 6th at Birmingham.....I'm way confused, I thought there was only one interview.

Any suggestions on what's going on??

Regards

Iceman

Hi notaide and welcome to the forum. I recommend you speak to someone at the company, since I used to work with a lady who runs psychometric tests and people with dyslexia were given extra time. Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Thanks!
The email confirming the interview did tell me to email them if I did have any requirements and I immed answered. I have a copy of the report which I'm thinking of taking.

I sat down and did the test they sent thru and when I rechecked I'm made some really stupid mistakes. Its the timed issue, in RL I'm okay I'm quick even, but I know a buzzer isn't going to go off!

I struggle to finish the mathematics elements of those SHL / OPC psychometric tests in the given time. The last one I did involved was dubbed as a mental arithmetic test. 5 minutes was given to do 70 questions, some of them you needed to do with a pen and paper. I got through 58 of them and that was without deducing time to think about breathing or anything else!

With the English comprehension tests, I'm sure many people would be tempted to read the case study before reading the questions. I do it the other way around, scanning to match keywords in the question and case study as it's impossible to make progress otherwise.

I think accuracy is more important - the pass threshold seems to be around 20% so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks for relating your experiences. I'm love to to some more practice papers as the one's they issued I'm probably word perfect in.

Anyone know of any similar practice papers I could download and use? I've been checking the web but I can't find anything.

I'd just hate to have got an interview and go home at the first hurdle.

Hello folks

A bit of guidance here is needed please :) I was going to apply for a job with london midland today, but the jobs has been either been closed or withdrawn, the job (i think) was for various customer service roles (station based) within the midlands and i was hoping to get an LM placement in warwickshire.

I am sure that the closing date was set for the 28th of this month, has anyone on here seen these jobs advertised and applied for it? If o have you got an link to the job advert as i can not find it in my history on my phone!!!!

Hi Gaz
I have to admit I thought the closing date was for the 26th of Jan when I applied but I may be getting mixed up with the jobs at Euston and surrounds which are the 28th. I do think however it did close earlier than the date given as I remember I was surprised to get a notification of interview so quickly (the 24th)

It did say on my invite that I needed to book an assessment date ASAP because as soon as the dates were full, that was it. It is on a first come first served basis. So I wonder if because of the overwhelming response they closed the add early?

It's not uncommon for rail industry job ads to disappear well before deadline, as they are almost invariably over-subscribed within days. Those which are not thus truncated (such as last summer's FTPE trainee driver one) tend to attract incredible numbers (over 5000 in that instance), so to keep them manageable, many are open only for a few days. D B Schenker and ATW have both withdrawn ads months before original cut-off date within the last week, presumably due to overwhelming interest.

You've got to get in early. This is a good place to be, in that respect, as you'll likely see a heads-up posted on here as soon as any ads go live. Expect knock-backs aplenty, if you get to interview/assessment stages you've already done mighty well, no matter what the job.

Unfortunately, Maps has stopped.
Sooooo, the last contact I had from LM was telling me that they would let me know when my references are back. I know my current boss-man has done a reference, as he told me last Monday. Still heard nothing from LM. Gonna give them til the end of the week, then phone again. Only got 18 shifts left to work at my current employer, getting a little nervous now!!!

This is a common tactic used by recruiters specifically to weed out the kind of people they don't want to employ.

Good news. I had my unconditional letter a week or so ago but it just said about going to NS on 25th for induction, nothing about the rest, said more details would follow in due course. Did you get all of it together?

Well I've had a reply from a person in HR (not sure whether its a good idea or not to name them) they would like to ring me one day next week, is this normal? I was expecting an email listing their reasons not to hire me!
