Brum-Edin HST to end Friday

I was on the VXC HST diagram (14.05 Edin-Brum) from Leeds to Wakefield this evening. After the train manager did his announcement, he said his 'gaffer' had another announcement to make and handed over to him. His announcement was along the lines of "as regular passengers will be aware, we have been using an HST on this train for some time. As from next Monday, the HST will be handed back and the train will be formed of a Voyager. We will aim to provide 8 cars, but there may be occasions when it may only be 4 or 5 coaches".

I actually thought it was quite good of Virgin to warn people!

I thought this was staying on until the end of the MML franchise, as the repairs to the crash damage Voyager have not yet been completed?

This was mentioned on the VT Yahoo group a few weeks back.

17th May has now been quoted as the last day for the MML Hire In for Virgin Cross Country.

MML haven't been able to resource an HST set. For whatever reason, these last couple of weeks extension have seen the set taken from the core pool and if one isn't available then XC don't get their set.

It hasn't.

MML had two spare sets, NL02 and NL03.

NL02 has gone for Old Ma Forster to play with as LA79.
NL03 was available for Virgin use, not sure what's up with it now.

Oh, by the way it finishes on Friday 18th, NOT 17th.

There is a rumour on the virgin-trains group that it will last another week.

Yes this rumour is correct the HST from Midland Mainline will finish after May
25th. This will be replaced by two Voyagers 221136 is due back in traffic any
day now after a collision with a car up the Northeast some time ago.
