I have a Zone 1-6 Annual Travelcard purchased at London Marylebone on my Oystercard.

When I use it to travel to Moor Street at weekends, what is my ticket for NRCOC purposes?:

a) my Gold Record card, which has NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL printed on it,

or

b) my Oyster card, which isn't usually recognised north of West Ruislip.

The ticket is an electronic one, and has no tangible existence, although it is stored within an Oyster card to give it physical form. The record card then contains a duplicate of the electronic ticket's information for situations where the electronic ticket within the Oyster cannot be checked, but it cannot be used as the ticket by itself – the Oyster needs to remain present at all times. Hence the ‘not valid for travel’.

What ticket do you get to extend it?

A West Ruislip - Birmingham New St is the same price as from London Terminals. But, as one of your tickets is a Season, then you could be using more than one ticket to extend it. Does any combination actually save money?

The OP isn't buying anything else.

Chiltern allow customers who have purchased tickets from their stations over a certain value (which includes the Zone 1-6 Travelcard in the OP's case) unlimited travel on their network, on weekends.

http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/t...n-tickets/existing-customers#special benefits

The Chiltern website says that you are required to present your record card for the free travel.

I don't get an extra ticket.

Its this offer:

When you buy a monthly or longer Season Ticket or Travelcard Season Ticket, from a Chiltern Railways station to London, worth £150 or more a month or £1,500 or more a year, you get FREE weekend travel across our entire network. You must buy your ticket from Chiltern Railways to receive this benefit. If your Season Ticket is on an Oyster card you must also have your paper record card to travel free at weekends.

That last line you've quoted seems pretty unambiguous to me. The words I've bolded means you have to carry both items:

If your Season Ticket is on an Oyster card you must also have your paper record card to travel free at weekends.

In theory when you buy a qualifying Travelcard on Oyster from a Chiltern station, the clerk is supposed to stamp a season ticket information/conditions card and staple a copy of the receipt to it, and that's what ticket checking staff will want to see.

In practice, of course, not everyone remembers to do so!

Unfortunately some (most?) Chiltern guards / gateline staff at Chiltern stations are unaware of this offer and laugh when you show them an Oyster card.
