They do it on the Manchester Metrolink as well, then film each other :(

TBH, I'm suprised this video is even on youtube as it might encourage others.

Like the top comment;

Good way of culling chavs I suppose. Shame they don't all do it.

:D

To put it into perspective, it seems that the problem is a lot more widespread in other countries .......

Was on a late evening Bletchley - Bedford service a couple of years ago when some bloke refused to pay his fare having boarded at an unstaffed station, and was giving the guard a load of abuse. Two stations further down the line he was chucked off (the guard had already contacted BTP). However as the train set off again he decided to surf the back of the train. About 200 yards further down the line the guard gave a single buzzer for the driver to stop the train at which point the faredodger / surfer jumped down and scarpered along the track.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the ICE surfer yet, go search him on YouTube if interested... Wouldn't recommend trainsurfing as a hobby though, low-speed drifting across ice on my bike gets me going badly enough!

True enough and maybe someone should tell the PC brigade, that they are not helping the situation and to just shut up

NO to both you and Anon Mouse. There is only a tiny minority of children who do this sort of thing. Showing horrific images to every child, most of whom are going to behave sensibly and have parents who teach them responsibility, is a disgusting idea. The fantasy PC brigade you refer to is nothing to do with it.

I doubt that showing gory photos will help. I am sure that most kids will know it is dangerous - they just don't think it will happen to them.

I have seen plenty of photos of frostbitten mountaineers but never put me off.

i remeber when I was a bairn and the BTP came in to give a talk, and they did show some gory stuff. The only way to scare them from doing stuff like that is to scare them and I'm sorry if that offends you. Facts do a lot more than a gentle "don't do that its naughty"

I remember as a kid a film they showed of a lad (a keen footballer)crossing 3rd rail and losing the use of his legs. It was well made and certainly put me off. Something like that would help nowadays

I think that was the same one I saw as a bairn

There are kids (well late teens) going up and down our main road on a sled tied to the back of a Golf. Given how many cars are skidding, I wouldn't be surprised if something bad happens.

But hey, not my problem!

I was shown this too. It was called "Billy" or something, and because I was in SE London they showed the "3rd" rail variant. I just youtube'd it out of curiosity and only the "leg crushed off" one is about it seems. Worked for me aswell and I viewed the 3rd rail with an enigmatic fear.

Oops memory failing me there - it's called "Robbie" haha

How dangerous is this and are they really hurting anyone else?

I realise I'm sticking my neck out here, but young men (especially) have a need for risk and excitement. It's a need we've been happy enough to exploit in the past when there were empires to build and wars to win.

Personally I'd rather they 'surfed' a train than joyrode a car.

How dangerous is Hanging off the side of a 100mph train going over third rail and through narrow tunnels you mean??

I won't even mention the delays that would be caused by them falling off.

Is this a serious question? :?

The MetroLink doesn't go anywhere near 100mph!

Oh course this is 'dangerous'. So is getting out of bed in a morning.

What I'm trying to do is get an idea of how dangerous, compared with say riding a Fireblade like a complete knob.

And yes, this is a serious question.....

:-x

Thats just dangerous and the essence of downright stupidity.

I hope I made myself clear

Dangerous = well it can kill you

Does it hurt anyone else? = The driver, The Passengers, The Witnesses, The Family

Picking up pieces of flesh from a d**khead who thinks it is "fun" to surf a train/tram is not pretty!
Do I really need to continue?

Oh sorry, I thought it was a general question.

The ways you personally would rather they do can injure, mane or kill other people who are completely innocent and where just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Also most people who do use high performance motorbikes are generally incredibly sensible. Yes a few will be idiots but they generally end up seriously injured.

Im what would be considered a young man and i have no want or need. to go and risk my own life or those of others for some excitement.

Geezers need excitement, heh. Wasn't that a song by the Streets?

If we have to fulfil the needs of these idiots/'young men', can't we just fill an arena with them and provide each with a knife. Last man standing wins a free pair of Nike trainers?

Sounds like good fun for them. Both risky and exciting. ;)

Replacement? I'd get him to host it. Simon Cowell could produce it.

It would make millions and it would be right up the street of ITV, so win win for everyone.

You sure? There's a strong case for it being on the BBC. You could class it as a Public Service Broadcast I reckon.
