Train formation from Waterloo

I'm planning on getting either the 1905 or 1935 WAT-WEY tonight. I was wondering about the formation of these trains.

The 1935 is typically made up of two trains; one 5x444 from Weymouth and 5x444 from Portsmouth. They join up at platform 11 at Waterloo. I know this in advance (and check it on the National Rail app), so I usually just ignore the boards at the station and head straight for platform 11.

Given the circumstances, does anyone have any info on the 1905 and 1935; formation and any idea of platforms? I'd rather be waiting on the platform then on the rammed concourse. Also get a decent seat that way! :)

Thanks!

The 1905 is booked on P10, and the 1935 on P8. Bear in mind these trains are only running as far as Bournemouth, with a connecting onward service to Weymouth.

Also bear in mind this is very likely to change due to the snow.

jnjkerbin - thanks for this. I only need to go as far as Bournemouth, so that's fine with me! Do you know which up trains are forming these services? I can then check the arrivals when I get to the station and double-check the platform allocations.

I'm afraid I'm meant to be revising at the moment ;) but have a look at realtimetrains.co.uk and you should be able to see there. Use the Advanced searh option.

No trains are splitting/ joining today and most services are maximum length, either 10 or 12 coaches so your train should be 10 coaches long.

Really? Huh. I was looking at the Weymouth Severe Winter Timetable, which shows:

Waterloo dep 1905
Eastleigh arr 2023
Eastleigh dep 2025

In the next column, there's:
Eastleigh dep 2028
Portsmouth Harbour arr 2121.

I assumed from the timing, given the Portsmouth train appears to start at Eastleigh, that it was the rear five carriages of the Weymouth train, but I guess that's a separate train. Oh well, I guess I'll find out later.

edit: Yeah, looked at that website to see train movements at Eastleigh. The Portsmouth service comes out of sidings at 2027 and heads off to Portsmouth at 2028. So my assumption was wrong, and my 1905 train is going to be busy with travellers for both Portsmouth and Weymouth lines!

jnjkerbin - thanks for that website. It's gone straight into my bookmarks. I was wondering what Tom was up to these days. Good luck with the revision! :)

The timetable is only what they hope to run and I can tell you now that most of it down here is not running to that timetable, although generally it is running.

I would check Eastleigh to Portsmouth with someone because earlier there was a shuttle between Eastleigh and Fareham and then that got pulled so nothing ran ESL - FRM, but that may have changed as things had improved a bit by the time I got home.

That is because there have been a couple of failures and one train broke down twice blocking the line, I wont mention who the driver was but she has had a bit of a ribbing today about it!

If it wasnt for the breakdowns then the timetable would have been (near enough) kept to but you obviously know more than me because I am merely a lowly train driver who has regular contact with the route controllers.
