Has it always been free?

Just buying some tickets on the website, normally I buy them in station, and when I went to the pick up option it says that they offer Special Delivery, selected that instead of getting from a ticket machine as they aren't for me and the person won't have my card and on the next screen the price didn't increase.

Looking on the Royal Mail site it normally costs a minimum of £5.90.

Not sure, but youve got a good deal...

Ive just checked against the East Coast system and they charge £1.00 for 1st class post and £5.45 for Special Delivery.

Next time ill be checking Scotrail, thanks for the heads up!

Having just navigated through to the step before actually paying for a ticket, the option to select "Special Delivery" is shown as "Free" which would explain why the price did not increase on your next screen.

Now that's good service.

Overall I certainly did. Return tickets to Edinburgh this weekend and Special Delivery for under £30.

I am wondering if it is a special offer or something along those lines.

I was expecting some Ryanair style ruse where the postage charge was added on at the end.

I always use the free postage service with Scotrail Advance tickets. Much better than faffing about with TVMs and credit/debit cards. Only buy from other TOCs if they offer an online discount.

From what Pax said in his/her post it sounds like it has been going a while.

I think it's normally only the First Class post that is free. I haven't used Special Delivery because the tickets have always arrived the next day with the free postage. That service is also offered by ScotRail Telesales, so I have had Virgin WCML tickets posted out free along with Caley Sleeper tickets.
