"British Eurostar travellers can pay nearly three times as much in
fares compared to customers from abroad.
When trippers use the Eurostar website to book tickets for the first
time they are asked to say where they are from.
All they have to do is select a different country of origin to take
advantage of huge price cuts.
A one-way ticket to Paris from Londons Waterloo would cost GBP154 but
if you are American the same fare will cost you GBP60.50, Japanese
GBP57.76, German GBP68.31 and Australian GBP45. Customers are billed
in their native currency. The credit card firm then converts the
dollars and Euros back into Pounds.
Toby Cox, 30, of Hackney, East London, spotted the different prices.
He said: Its crazy. From now on, Im Australian.
A spokesman for train pressure group Railfuture said: Its unfair.
Eurostar said 98 per cent of Brits wanted RETURN tickets and prices
of these were comparable with those for other nationalities.
A spokesman admitted there was nothing to stop people getting a
cheaper single by giving a different country of origin on the
website."
