We decide to use rail as our next mode of travel and walking the very short distance to the railway station, we board the 2122 Northern service to Whaley Bridge that arrives there at 2131 on Thursday evening.

Still trying to maintain onward transport we take the 2259 First Transpennine service to Manchester Airport, arriving at 2314 Thursday evening.

We make our way to the bus station section of the interchange and board the 2340 Stagecoach Manchester service X69 to Heald Green (The Griffin) that arrives there at 2349 on Thursday evening.
Noting that the X69 is effectively following the route of the 369 due to roadworks, we make our way over to the other side of Finney Lane to take the 07:05 Stagecoach Manchester route 312 to Stanley Green, Stanley Road, arriving 07:17 on Friday

What a most excellent time and place to arrive, as this affords us the opportunity to make a once-a-day journey, so crossing over to the other side of the road outside the Belfry Hotel, we board the 0742 Vale of Llangollen service 200 to Styal (Quarry Bank Road..via Wilmslow) that arrives there at 0759 on Friday morning.
We decide that its reasonably good weather, so we wait around for the next Airport bound Vale of Llangollen route 200, departing 09:05 which we take to Runger Lane, the stop just before Manchester Airport Cargo Centre, arriving 09:21 Friday

Also convenient timing, as we can now undertake the short walk to Styal Station for one of its few trains, the 0817 Northern service to Crewe, arriving at 0844 on Friday morning.

The train has terminated at Manchester Airport, it's a different service back to St Helen's Junction. You can use a different service on the same route.

Time now to seek out a good restaurant to sustain us after the recent journeys, then feeling fully refreshed, we return to the railway station to board the 2212 First ScotRail service to Stranraer that arrives there at 0052 on Saturday morning.

We decide we are going to Overnight it at the station entrance, so complete with sleeping bag, we settle down for the night before catching the 07:01 FSR service to Ayr arriving there at 08:21 Saturday Night.
