I honestly don't know, its in the same category to me as why aren't we allowed to sell West Yorkshire Dayrovers on train. I'm not saying its right or that I agree at all. But consistent policy for these things has been not to sell it on board

Sure.

A kind of update (from the bus side) re train and bus dayrovers: the Association of Bus Operators of west Yorks is consulting with its members on whether they would accept (on bus) the train&bus dayrovers printed on orange stock as per plusbus etc.

Apparently this is the main reason that (at present) it is just Train Only that can be sold on board trains.

The bus comapany I am involved with is (hopefully) going to respond that they are happy, and furthermore would like to sell train and bus dayrovers on board the bus (though this is probably a step too far, although that said it does happen in South yorks).

Yeah, it was annoying not being to sell them even if it was in the machines. I think the more appropriate ticket I should have mentionned was the West Yorkshire Zones 6 and 7 seasons which were also ticket office only and wouldnt be surprised if this wasnt overlooked by staff in some aspects as there is no diffence in ticket stock (normal orange tickets)and is on the Advantix.

I have looked at the terms and conditions of the ticket on http://www.northernrail.org/friends

5.Complete the application form and take to any staffed station within the Northern Rail network. The tickets for this offer cannot be purchased on trains.

There is no contingency clause in there in case of what if the local booking office is closed, what if there isnt one etc. Just that they are not to be sold on train. Beleive it or not we have no more information than what is on the website. All I hope is that I dont get a request to sell one as it may be a nightmare

We need someone who works in a ticket office to comment on the likelihood of getting the cost of the ticket deducted from the cost of the Rover!

Well I would, as it is part of the NRCoC, but then I would expect most people wouldn't even know they are supposed to buy the ticket in the first place!

Ah, but the only bus and train ticket sold on buses in South Yorkshire is the OFF PEAK ticket - valid all day on buses but only after 09.30 on trains. The more expensive (and more useful) ONE DAY TRAVEL MASTER (valid all day on bus, train and tram) can only be purchased as a scratch off card from PTE Travel Centres - in advance.
