I'm sure I posted a google earth version donkeys years ago...
Basically...
Re-build Cornbrook Interchange so that everything through Trafford Bar, with seperate platforms for NR and Metrolink, however you like, preferably paired by direction at Cornbrook with Metrolink on the outside (to make use of the flyover to the south west, and provide another for the lines toward manchester to pair by usage on the viaducts, or just pair by use. Paired by use might be better for versatility as it would allow the CLC stoppers to use Central)
All Metrolink runs via Panoma you may want to re-build this with 4 platforms instead of 2, demolishing Adamson House to do it. After Panoma Junction the new section of line runs down Panoma Strand and crosses the water again, heading over Chester Road and running Paralell with White City Way, either at ground level or on viaduct (stealing space from the Police HQ), over Talbot Road and through the bowels club, and we're there, at Trafford Bar Depot.
The lines via St Wellingbrough Road will continue as Metrolink until capacity is even more constrained over Stockport Viaduct, then it will be four tracked between Trafford and Didsbury, 2 metrolink and 2 heavy rail into Central, the 2nd stockport station re-opended and everything via Hazel Grove (or most things) running into Central instead.
Meanwhile the line to Alty gets put back to 25kV AC, and install sections of four track running where possible for fast and slow services, 6tph slow into Central, formed of 323 like units, doubled up in the peaks, 3, 4, 6 or 8 car units. With fast services being run by 2 or 4 car Class 156 or similar units, limited stop, onwards to Chester and Crewe via Middlewitch.
Stockport becomes a 2tph shuttle from Alty with re-opened stations on route when money permits, until then, a shuttle...
