I've got to travel on two First services later today. Not looking forward to it as I'm on crutches after having an op on my foot. Swear to god I get any grief about getting on and off I will just lose the plot. I've already been pushed down a set of stairs...

1st has nice springy seats But the doors often whack into people as they are very loose.

Looks similar (if not a little nicer as well) to what we have on the 321s. I actually prefer the way you've got it organised on the right hand side of the picture, with one seat facing the engine and the other facing back, whereas on our First Class units two seats are put together behind a four.

The 365 Networkers have electronic doors that open on the push of a button, or sensor.

I was on one where those broke recently. Several people ended up trapped in the first compartment, it took two of us to get them open (not that the people inside helped).

The sliding doors on SWT's 450s are sometimes broken, really annoying!

That amounts to assault in my book.

True, if I didn't pass through that station every day I would pursue it. But not worth annoying that member of staff, or he will no doubt annoy me back in the future. If I knew he would get sacked, I'd pursue without a thought. As in if it was a definite sacking, not just a talking too and a slap on the wrist.

They are usually isolated by lazy passengers, I have to re-instate several sets every time I change ends.
Never understood why those buttons were put in for the passengers to use?

I usually re-instate them after hitting the isolator, but I have weird capacitance on my skin that the sensors don't like picking up...
Are those door buttons heat/touch sensitive or are they actual physical buttons? As I have had a few doors refuse to open until after a few presses of the button.

Are we talking about plunger type buttons on the ceiling ( I've never looked up in a 450! )? If they are, it might be that people think they are "door hold" buttons like on the Eurostar and they aren't aware they are isolating them.

Physical buttons on the 365s but not all have the buttons inside FC and require a good wave by the sensor (on the ceiling) in some cases or else you're stuck in!

On the TL side, you're told where FC is usually but never on the GN side and it can be confusing.

I believe all 321s are now with FC at the London end (at first they weren't and could require a quick run to the other end). 317s will be coach 2 or 3, while 365s are both ends and 'no risk'.

That's the ones, same on the 444s as well. Usually pressed by people waiting to get off the train so they don't get squashed by the doors every few seconds.

I've seen a few people on 444's press the button on the ceiling as those doors are well designed for people queuing to get off the train. The buttons on the doors themselves look touch sensitive?

I admit I've isolated doors out on HST sets when the sensor is duff. Often get a particular set where the sliding door into the standard class quiet coach has gone down. Opens and closes when no one is near it, or stays shut when you do go near it.

Providing passenger assistance on to busy trains is a fine art in itself. Getting to the front of the queue and obtaining a seat is easy enough - you're a railwayman in a high vis vest towing a visually impaired or elderly person or similar, people will move when asked. Getting off the train against the tide and avoiding being carried on to the next station, however, requires a very delicate balance of pushing through the crowd without barging into them and upsetting people. Turning sideways slightly usually helps people to pass over you rather than slam into you
