Yes, I agree it makes perfect sense for the reason you give, but it was still something to think about especially when you'd already done 3 of them. I'm sure there must be other examples elsewhere on the network of down trains becoming up mid-journey. But that's probably for another thread.

Thameslink. It can pass through multiple London terminals. And change mid route.

I don't know, but they may have been protesting about massive fare increases on the line from January once most of the point to point seasons are withdrawn. If you don't know that a season from South Bermondsey will cost the same as the one you used to be able to get from Queens Road Peckham etc (with the slight RPI+1 rise obviously) then you'll be in for a nasty shock after Christmas.

The signs they were holding up were only making reference to the withdrawal of the service, nothing about price rises - you would think if protesting about that, you would make that your main point on a sign !!!

This is interesting, when does a Up train from either Bedford or Brighton become a Down train?

Would it be classed as a Up train to Farringdon then after the power changeover is classed as a Down train?

The mileage changeover is at Farringdon; this is where the Up Moorgate becomes the Down Snow Hill (and vice versa).

All circular trains will change on route-it depends on the line it's using.

The south londons ran out of London bridge on what is called the down south London line but us the northern part of the Portsmouth line. At Peckham rye the main route (although it looks like the diverging route to look at due to the curve) is the down Portsmouth towards dulwich and dorking. The diverging route is the up Atlantic (it runs over Atlantic viaduct at Brixton).

The palace rounders (vic-London bridge via crystal palace) are on the down Brighton from vic to Balham, then the down crystal palace, then the up Sydenham spur (think its up towards Sydenham but has been years since I signed it!) then the up London bridge.

For the first time I believe, LOROL are currently diverting to Battersea Park due to a signalling problem between Wandsworth and Clapham.

There's been a couple because of late running already. Think one even made it on the first day.

The train I saw during the problems at 1700 still had Clapham Junction on the display, despite diverting to Battersea Park.
