It was a very unfortunate situation, of course, and very sad, too, but I hear the BTP did a fantastic job in clearing up. FCC sent out some really useful messages on Twitter, on the information side.

I was slightly confused by the continuous NRE description of the delays as being between "London St Pancras and Luton" - I know the incident was originally publicised as being further South than Flitwick, but I reckon they should have changed the headlines to reflect the true location when that was known. It's not really as if it makes much difference, because there's no rail alternative branching off from the Luton area anyway (much as I'm sure we'd like there to be!).

Good announcements on station and train, and no grumbles from punters that I heard.

It has been a bad week, but generally most people I speak to seem to be okay about it.

It has been a very bad week for deaths and other serious incidents on the railway.

Several sad and unfortunate fatalities in the Lincolnshire area this week. Plus one in Congleton and Kingston upon Thames (the latter was not fatal)

Also, the car and train involved at the level crossing incident which resulted in the very sad death of a young girl.

Finally, the car which ended up on the railway and hit by a train in Northumbria which is still being investigated.

There were a couple of Tweets that I saw which were really scraping the bottom of the barrel, including one from a person(?) who described herself as kind and caring yet was having a right old rant. She then suggested that a psychiatrist should be provided at every station......
Rather than that, how about twitter police who trace and contact people who have made stupid, obnoxious, heartless comments.

It would have changed as driver displacement would affect services later on with perhaps delays transferring from north of Luton to south hence the changed area.

I got the EMT home to Bedford but the announcements there were of a bridge strike near Elstow. Was that for real or an avoidance of grim news? Whatever, we went on the slow at Flitwick and then waited in line to approach Bedford.
I despair of queuing for a platform at Bedford.......

Yeah, both correct. Fatality was between 1200 and 1300, bridge strike much later on but interfered - displaced crews and units caused much of the delay in the evening.
