Looking at changing my route for my next trip down to London from Colwyn Bay to mix it up from the straight forward Virgin train service.

I was considering the Arriva service to Birmingham New Street and a Chiltern Train to London taking the day out to trundle down to the capital.

Does anyone recommend any other routes to while away the day and get to London?

Do Chiltern still run a Class 67 hauled service? If so when?

North Wales to London via Warrington (maps CL+LC) is a valid route if you want to chase after a Pendolino rather than a Voyager from Chester.

The ATW route Club 55 via Chiltern is the cheapest £17 plus about £12 or so surcharge, so around £30 return, of course you have to be 55 or over.

Indeed Chiltern still run the class 67, 7 days a week from next Monday, its on their website

You can go via Stoke and/or Leamington/Oxford as well as High Wycombe on an Any Permitted ticket.

Or you could get the ATW Class 67 from Colwyn Bay to Shrewsbury, then change for Birmingham before ending up on the Chiltern Class 67 set for the end of the journey:D

Thanks for posting those times, I'm pleased to see a mid-morning loco-hauled departure from London at last!

After a quick look I cannot find any advance fares on any of the 'mainline silver' services, but plenty on the dmus, is this a policy?
