Unfortunately, Maps has stopped.
I rang on Friday and was told nobody was starting in January. The induction has been put off until February due to the people starting last week. It seems people are hearing different things so I'll just wait and see.
I was originally offered a start date of November 26th, which I couldn't do as it would have really cocked things up for me with my current employer should I ever want to go back, so I was told there was an intake in January, and an intake in February, and which one did I want to go for?? Naturally, I chose the January date. Have to suck it and see, I guess.

Like I said, they are telling us different things. I've passed everything including my medical already. When I rang Friday they said nobody was starting January as because of the lot starting last week, the next induction was being delayed. A month doesn't really make that much difference to me but I would rather start as early as possible obviously.

Yet they asked me outright today when I would need to know in order to give sufficient notice to start with them Jan 7th.

Does seem very strange this whole process, telling everyone different things and changing dates and people at stages all over the place etc. Just wish they would give us something concrete now after the medicals.
Good luck Roverman, hope you hear something from your interview soon.

Hi All,

First ever post. Am in process for applying for above job. Have passed assessment, interview and medical.

But I have still not been formally offered the position.

I am getting a bit ****ed off TBH. I'm ready to hand in my notice at work and explain to my colleagues what's going on but I daren't until I have a firm offer in writing off LM.

I was told 7th Jan was the start date at interview.

After complete silence from recruitment dept pretty much from day one I finally phoned the number quoted previously in posts here and was told the start date IF i'm successful will now be Feb 25th!!!

Why is LM incapable of forecasting and planning the intake and training of new staff?

It wasn't shedloads of guards leaving which caused the staff shortages and massive cancellations last month was it?

Truth be told, I think that it's possible that the HR people at 102 New Street aren't all reading off the same song sheet. The firm answers to all the questions I have had have come direct from the lady that handled this recruitment drive, Sheila Spence. I think all the time I've rung LM since they offered me a job on the 6th, I've spoken to her, and she's been pretty cool, knows when I need to hand my notice in to my current employer, yadda-yadda-yadda.
The date that I heard bantered around the last time I spoke to LM, was indeed at the beginning of January. It may be that those of you that have been told otherwise have either a) been given misinformation by someone that isn't really too sure, or b) won't be starting until february because they've filled the january intake up.
If you've been offered a job but haven't had a formal offer yet, it's probably because not everyone who is starting the same date as you has had their medical yet. The date for mine had to be changed (at my request, not theirs) as I work perma-nights and have 2 children which made it awkward for me. I'm not now having my medical until next Friday, (14th) so I assume that I'll be one of the last of the current batch to go through it. I would imagine that when this batch are all done, then the offer letters will come out.
As I see it, if they offer you a job and you can't work your notice period with your employer but you don't want to turn the LM job down, then go cap-in-hand to your boss like I did with mine. They can only say no, you can't cut your notice short, so then you leave anyway. They've still go to pay you what you're owed, so bugger them!!!

All my correspondence is from Sheila Spence, and she was supposed to interview me on Monday but no one could find her and I was interviewed by 2 men, one of whom looked like he'd been on the trains for about 50 years and an admin type of guy and then took it in turns to answer the questions.

I got the feeling on Monday they wanted me to hand in my notice on the strength of the conditional offer. This is a non starter for me, I will only be handing my notice on my current role once I have solid gold guarantees I'm on the LM payroll.

I was interviewed by two fellas, too. I think their names were Steve? and possibly Mark?? One was in his thirties, the other guy was a little older. It was in a huge room upstairs in the hotel they used. Didn't do what I did, and drink the juice they give you without water in it, did you??

I hope we hear soon. It just hasn't been making sense to me. Hopefully plastictaffy is right and they are just waiting for all the medicals to get done. I was on the very first assessment, had one of the first interviews and then on to the medical. I was told January 7th so I can't see why I would have to wait till Feb if others are starting in Jan. We'll see over the next week or two. Luckily I only have to give two weeks notice.

interview done ... went well ,wasnt as intense as i thought it would be , and format seemed to have changed since the last time but hey ho its done
i was told 28th feb start date and there will be more vacancies after that later in the year

irony was my train home terminated early due to traincrew shortage lol

spoke to someone else who was there and they were on the assessment day that ran late by an hour , seemed very spread out

I had to email Shelia Spence about some prebooked holiday that I had forgotten about at the interview, stress of it all meant that they went clean out of my mind. She replied stating that the next intake won't be til Feb anyway.

It sounded pretty definite to me pending references etc. She said starting the 25th to be based at Coventry for me. Where are you being based? We'll all start off at Birmingham first anyway for training I suppose.

That's good then, thought the call was never going to come. I think its a birmingham position as applied with crewe as first choice but was told at interview it was no longer any positions there, will ask for definite when call back tomorrow. Yes, guess will all be in birmingham for training, probably see you there.

i put down for npt or bletchley , ive worked at both depots , when i trained the first time it was at rugby for classroom , bham for route learning and depot for the rest ( dont know if route learning still happens for us )

i wonder if they will have everyone all together no matter where you will be based , doesnt really make sense though due to travelling , so i would assume different groups ??

got the feeling due to me lagging slightly behind you guys in the process i may be put back till further in the year but fingers crossed guys , 9 weeks aint that long to start

Cobbler, I suppose it depends how many vacancies there are in Feb and how many people have passed everything. Sheila said today they are getting my paperwork done now so all should be finalised soon. They got back to you very quickly after interview so it's looking good for you to start Feb.

Finally managed to get through to Sheila Spence as shes been in driver testing every time I tried to get through! She said that my references and contract would now be sorted but my final location isnt certain yet until the next intake are all through interview but will definitely be one of the 3 I put on my application form, therefore the guys who are currently on interviews/medicals will almost definitely have the same 25th Feb start date as us.

Unfortunately, Maps has stopped.
Passed my medical yesterday. Just waiting for the urine sample to be tested, but that won't be a problem. I had a phone call from New Street last wednesday, asking me if I was still happy to accept a conditional job offer, to start on Feb 25th. I asked if the January intake was available and was told that it's not happening. She asked if I'd had my medical, and seemed quite surprised when I told her it was yesterday. Left hand clearly still doesn't quite know what the right hand's doing!!!
