It involves doubling back?
For example you have a ticket from station B going east to station C. However the ticket allows you to travel west to station A and then double back through B to get to C.
This would enable you to use it as a return from station B to A?

"SR" - What's an SR? Please don't use abbreviations that are neither official nor commonly used, for the simple reason, it confuses us!

It does confuse all the tourists, thats right. It confused me when I was a tourist. I used the information point to ask about the best ticket and the person on the end didn't know (!?!?!).
I asked the guard of the next train who said he couldn't help me with ticketing enquiries, he couldn't sell me a ticket either and that I must use the TVM and get the next train.
I eventually bought an SDR only to find the next guard say 'Oh, you could have bought a Daysaver for less' when she checked it. Grrr!

Anglia plus day rangers are also issued as singles and annoyingly behave as singles in the barriers. You get one entry and one exit after which the ticket will be rejected for the rest of the day. The three in seven day version seems to be encoded as a kind of season ticket and will open the barriers for the full seven days of potential validity.
Luckily barriers are not in abundance in the area.

Interestingly the same price as a plusbus - with a little additional rail validity - I may have to get my first issued on rail stock when I visit Nottingham next week.
