It seems that rainwater ran inside the TVMs at Three Bridges and they had to be turned off at around 1500hrs. So... Southern are not TOO badly affected so far! ;)

Seriously, though, I shall expect rather more disruption due to potential high winds around the network in the next 24 hours or so...

CrossCountry renamed to CrossRiver?

Or... CrossCulvert?

Just been down to look at the River Exe (from a safe distance) - It's very high (not as high as it was on Wednesday though - it was overtopping the quay then!) but more importantly there has been constant heavy rain since about 5pm!

This part of the country's fine, thankfully. It's been raining most of today, but not heavily. There'll be little rain tomorrow before sunset.

(All XC services will be going via Coventry vice Warwick tomorrow, but that'll have minimal effect on journey times.)

Just returned from Exeter to Bristol Parkway. Intention was replacement bus to Tiverton Parkway to connect with 1Z89 1955 Tiverton Parkway to Bristol TM FGW HST which had worked 1706 Paddington to Tiverton Parkway. I previously found out that replacement coaches were not running to a timetable, but as long distance trains arrived at Exeter from the west, coaches would be loaded and dispatched. So 1Z94 1551 Penzance Exeter duly arrived at 1858, passengers loaded onto 3 replacement coaches which departed at 1905. Coaches arrived Tiverton Parkway at 1935 having observed HST on its way to Tiverton Jn to reverse. HST arrives in up platform around 1945, and I get on. Then nothing until Train Manager appears at 2003 enquiring as to customer's destinations. I reply Bristol Parkway. Around 2008 station staff come through saying train was cancelled due to no driver, and passengers should return to waiting room. After about a minute in the waiting room the train manager announced passengers for Taunton and Bristol Parkway should join the coach, we departed around 2015, arriving Bristol Parkway 2155, which was earlier than I expected to arrive had the train run! I presume other coaches were provided to cover other destinations, there were quite a few people going to London who would be able to get a train from Temple Meads. One other passenger on our coach was going to Birmingham, and as the coach was based in Aston I presume it would have taken him to New St as the last train had long since gone. I wasn't too happy at having to travel by coach all the way from Exeter to Bristol Parkway, but I thought given the circumstances it was very well handled.

This is reaching biblical proportions now, and I wouldn't be surprised if roads critical to rail replacement bus services get closed as well, which would totally finish us off down here in the South West.

Police have requested that buses between Yeovil and Exeter do NOT run tomorrow due to road conditions.

Conditions are poor in the SE, only light rain though but the wind is pretty strong.

Line flooded between Fareham and Eastleigh via Botley, though it floods fairly easily anyway, diversions via St Denys.

If anyone wants a look at my Twitter @richwarwicker, I have tweeted a selection of main roads in Cornwall, which now look more like Venice.
Today both main roads gave been closed into Cornwall at the same time due to flooding. The environmemt agency have issued a danger to life warning in parts of Cornwall this evening.

Also a report of a landslip between Plymouth and Liskeard near Wivelscombe Tunnel

I wonder how many trains will run tomorrow now then, Exeter is now blocked off in all directions except the exmouth branch!

Certainly is! Now hearing of a landslip along the dawlish sea wall too. So all that'll be running tommorow at this rate will be the Exemouth line - unless any units can be sent over from Plym to work the Paignton services.

Just got back.

To be honest the only thing letting the side down is communication and information. Even before the landslip at Dawlish (Which is fair enough) the NRES planner was giving the impression that the entire replacement bus thing was a complete mess of non-connecting un-completeable disaster journeys. In reality it was well organised with numerous buses between Tauton and and Exeter.

Even once we got to Exeter and the landslide reared its ugly head aside from staff at Exeter convinced the A38 was closed (It wasn't) and therefore ordering all the replacement taxi's (Which arrived in very quick time, excellently organised) go via Okehampton, everything there was as smooth as could be expected, too.

They do a good job really when things go wrong. All they need to do now is work out how best to communicate just how good a job it is.

One caveat - all the above praise is to FGW only. There was no sign of XC doing anything other than cancelling stuff (They seemed to have given up with the Bristol to Taunton runs and had cancelled the last few) :p

Well, this is a picture of Dawlish posted on Twitter with the station and rail lines on the left hand side - not looking good and theres more to come.

Are they sending the buses to M5 J25 from the station at Taunton or are they running them through the town and out to Wellington to join the M5 there? When I've been on rail replacement buses before I've noted that buses don't always go the same way. For example when arriving into Exeter some use J29, others J30 or even J31. This was a few years back though.

Exmouth is now cut off by road, so the train had better keep going...

I notice today's forecast for East Devon has gone from "cloudy" to "surprise! more rain!".

Well I am in East Devon and at 08:00 a.m. the sky is blue, the roads are dry and there is a light wind, Doubtless there is some flood water around, but we should get a few hours respite.

Just seen Exeter on the news, the water is very close to the top of the flood banks at Haven Banks. Hopefully it won't rise any further!

The tree that killed the woman is also on my normal route to work!

From Journeycheck it seems the line at Dawlish is now open again - quick work there from Network Rail.

I've only ever used the Wellington route once, it's usually J25 every time. As you say into Exeter they use a variety of routes, yesterday westbound we used J30 and Topsham Road then down to Bonhay Road, eastbound came out via Bonhay Road and out to J31, which the driver decided would be the least chance of trouble.

But the more people use buses/taxis the more it costs them, so they don't want it to look too attractive:)

When they put their backs into a problem Network Rail can do a really good job at getting things moving. I'm sure you'll remember earlier in the year when both the ECML and WCML were closed (by pretty significant landslips) and Network Rail had both open (in some capacity at least) in less than twenty four hours (I think twelve hours in one case). They deserve a lot of praise for their emergency engineering work in situations like this.

Quite a few flooding problems in Yorkshire today, currently en-route to Sheffield station, I'll try and post another update when I arrive.

And they get it from me. If anyone on this forum works in the emergency engineering part of network rail you are a credit to engineering. My parents are worried as me and my bro are travelling sheffield to plymouth in 2 weeks. I said i have every confidence the route will be open unless we have further flooding between now and then. Just going on their track record, i believe some landslips from last night along the exeter to penzance section ahve already been cleared this morning.

Rotheram Central Line is now clear. National rail stating no problems(well cancellations) through sheffield now but there may be delays.

Flooding between Doncaster and Sheffield means buses are replacing trains. Currently on a bus that was supposed to go at 1245 but apparently we have to wait until 'the bus is full'! So I've no idea when we'll be leaving. Organisation isn't brilliant to be honest.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Judging from YorkshireBear's post this could be the last bus. Would I be better getting off and waiting for the 1311 train?

Wow, thats looking properly bad.

Are we potentially looking at the disruption continuing all next week?

From the aerial shots with a Zoom on Cowley Bridge Junction that the BBC have just aired I'd say a couple of days after the waters subside. With more rain forecast for tonight I'd say middle of next week at the earliest...
