Hi all,

My dad works next to the railway line near enough at Old Dalby, he's inside a massive unit all day and doesn't get much chance to go outside on a break, He said that today he heard a 'noisy rattly engine' which sounded nothing like the tube stock that was there in recent times.

I am wondering if there is a 47 or some old boneshaker down there at the moment?

any gen at all?

cheers,

Bruce

There is

08834, used for shunting stock in the yard and moving the units to Old Dalby for testing (with a match/brake force wagon in front & behind)

08956 mainly used in the yard (fitted with an LUL coupler at the cab end)

47714 Also used for stock transfers, with the match wagons. This is mainly used in the winter as the 08s struggle for adhesion on slippery rails with a train on the back.

Class 20s are usually used for stock deliveries/collections.

Network Rail test trains also visit for calibration/surveying etc, usually a 37 or a 31.

47714 has never been Arriva blue. It is in Anglia blue (Or turquoise, make what you will of it).

And looking rather weather worn at that. Anyway, 47714 is due to move to Burton soon to be mainlined & repainted. It is to be replaced with 703.

I remember when it was sat at GCR Loughborough for a time, I think it only made it out on a couple of trips.

Doesn't Harry Needle own it?

This is needle were talking about! At the moment, who knows? But that's what ive heard for it. I'd love to hope that it ends up back in Scotrail, but it depends on what plans Needle's got for it. If it's to become another one of his hire out fleet then it'll probably end up orange (which im not sure would be an improvement over Anglia's awful livery. Could have been worse though, look at the awful state Cotswold ran poor old 818 in for a while! :o).

In the cab with the paper
There's a lot of stuff around the RTC. There's also been a Loram C21 rail grinder recently, which is a great big 5 vehicle yellow thing that can make a LOT of noise.
