Two Break of Journeys Ticket Inquiries

Hello all,

I am intending to travel on the following route and on the following dates and wonder what would be the best option of tickets that I can take? (Potentially providing more flexibility?) Note that I have a 16-25 Railcard and an Oyster Card also including the railcard into it already.

17th Nov (Sat): London -> Cambridge -> Ely -> London
A return journey from London to Ely with a break of journey at Cambridge (probably on the outward journey) and probably wondering if there would be difference if I travel on FCC or Great Anglia in terms of ticket price?

18th Nov (Sun): London -> Peterborough -> Derby -> Sheffield -> Manchester
I have checked with the ATOC routeing guide and know that it will not be a permitted route if via Peterborough and thinking that it will be plausible that to get an Advanced ticket from London King's Cross to Peterborough and then an Off-Peak Single from Peterborough to Manchester would probably allow me to do BOJs at Derby and Sheffied, but I couldn't find any T & C about this ticket on the East Midland website and unsure if that is possible (such that a restriction code applies).

or since I will be travelling down from Manchester to London on Friday, will it be actually cheaper to get an Off-Peak return from Manchester to London and purchase an addition tickets for London - Peterborough and Peterborough - Leicester (or would I not even need this section as Map PS covers this part which does that mean my return part of London - Manchester would be appropriate?)

That's fine, and there's no price difference.

There's no such thing as an off-peak single from Peterbrough to Manchester. There is an Anytime single, which is valid for BOJ at Derby and Sheffield.

I think you could do all of your travelling on a London to Huddersfield Super Off Peak Return (£95.20), using maps ER+PS+SY on the way up and GM+MA on the way back.

It has no break of journey restriction, so you can stop/start short in Manchester.

The only restriction would be that you can't travel back, on the Friday, on any train scheduled to arrive in London between 07:20-11:30

I think you could do all of your travelling on a London to Huddersfield Super Off Peak Return (£95.20), using maps ER+PS+SY on the way up and GM+MA on the way back.

Twas my first thought too. Indeed, if you got a hotel in Ely or Peterborough, you could do london cambridge ely peterborough manchester London on the one ticket though you couldn't do a further BOJ at derby or sheffield (though you could of course use station facilities at both).

My understanding is that Manchester - London would be on the preceding Friday so the OP would be on the return portion when travelling back up North. Therefore further breaks of journey at Derby and Sheffield would be perfectly fine using the itinerary you suggested.

Indeed, I am intending to travel from Manchester to London on 16th Nov, Friday and return via such route on 18th Nov, Sunday.

With the Hudderfield to London Super Off-Peak, I will be able to get it for £62.85 as I have a 16-25 Railcard.

However, an idea pops into my head and wonder if I can still use the Off-Peak Return of Manchester - London for £49.00 and then get an Off-Peak Return from Leicester - Peterborough, which is £12.85 and it all adds up to £61.85. One thing I'm unsure though is that does reservation required (Do I have to make one at the station? and do I have to pay for that?) for trains departing from London St. Pancras to Leicester?

Indeed that is my original plan, but I have to be in London on Sat night, and so I will to do my journeys in two parts, and also get to try the differences between FCC and Great Anglia!

If you get this combination, you will only be able to do either London - Cambridge or London - Peterborough but not both as you originally suggested. Are you changing your travel plans?
