Accommodation required in Nottingham/Derby (formerly Liverpool etc)

Hi all,

As in the title really, I need a cheap place to stay somewhere on the Liverpool/Manchester/Leeds corridor on the night of the 29th of this month. I will be in Liverpool on the 29th and will be going to Leeds the day after. I don't mind what it is, so long as (a) it's decent, (b) it's cheap, (c) formal ID is not required and (d) it's easily accessible by bus/train.

Any suggestions of any kind would be gladly received. I would be happy to go to anywhere in the area between those three cities, and also anywhere else on Merseyside, but would like to avoid Bradford if possible.

You may be lucky to snag a bargain at the Travelodge in Huddersfield or Halifax, both fairly close to the stations. Probably still gonna be around £35 mind, but at short notice you aren't going to do much better without dossing on stations or trying to survive in a hostel...

I'll do a Hostel if I have to. If I can do a Hostel in Belfast for four consecutive nights without trouble I can do one in these places!

As cheap as possible to put it simply. Subjective I know; otherwise, the best I can say is probably sub-£25. I would like to keep my budget for the time I'm up north below £100 if at all possible but that has to cover supplies, birthday stuff for my friend in Leeds, accommodation, Saveaway and travel to and from Bristol...

Formule 1 near Liverpool Albert Dock is £25 on the 29th.

If I wanted to bed down for free I'd go to Manchester Airport (one of the airline terminals, not the station) though; warm, safe and tolerable on a bench of seats.

Very difficult to doss on one of those, even after an 8.5 hour shift...Been there, tried it. Better off with accommodation if possible.

If I have to then so be it. It's not hard to get to (I would probably get the 43 bus, which if I stay in Manchester I'm planning to do anyway). Is it actually legal to sleep on the benches at an airport though? Not too surprisingly, I've never tried it!

Mind you, last time I stayed in Leeds with my friend I had to sleep on a two-seater leather sofa - not easy when you're 6'1"-ish, and sticky to boot.

You were sticking to a boot? I'm a bit concerned.

You usually get a a few dozen people in sleeping bags on the floor in T1. No one bothers them usually.

Perfectly legal, as long as you're not doing it every night. I've slept in numerous airports around Europe and they're usually vastly superior to rail/bus/coach stations (which can attract many undesirables due to central locations and weaker security). Loads of people do it to save money - especially when, say, the last train arrived at the airport around midnight and check-in is at 04.00! Stansted looks like a refugee camp most nights. There's actually a review website called www.sleepinginairports.com.

Some airports ask to see tickets e.t.c, but Manchester certainly don't. A hostel is likely to be comfier though!

Leeds's Etap (now rebranded Ibis budget) used to be dirt cheap £19 a night ish. (ibis)

Manchester has Sachas hotel from £29 a night. (expedia)

Liverpool has a Formule1. £24 a night ish. (ibis)

There are a couple of Travelodges nearby Leeds station - however, booking Saver rate now, about the best you'll get is £33 for the night

Sachas is absymal, but where price counts, it's habitable.

Many of the bad reviews are from those stopping Saturday night, or those who expected the Hilton. Some airlines still use Sachas for a crew stop, Selwyns has nine booked drops a week there for flight crews.

I think I've found my solution.

The YHA in Liverpool on the 28th - I will need it as well from the looks of things - is charging £10, and the one in Manchester on the 29th is charging £13. Not perfect I know but manageable, and with no apparent need for full ID (their site suggests that student ID is adequate).

Thank you for the help guys :) Now I just have to find a solution for getting back on Wednesday and/or Thursday...
