Destination screens: Anybody do better?

It is on a 159 that wouldn't normally venture North of Bristol. IIRC RR 158s and NSE 159s were programmed with the same codes (in Alphabetical order)

I've seen Kettering and Milton Earnest on a 319 blind before. There are still one or two Northern 142s running around with the old Arriva blind so I like to show either Glasgow or Edinburgh on them!

I've seen Ashby-de-la-Zouch on a 159 at Salisbury before now. Never mind it being out of range, it doesn't have a station! It was cycling through its myriad destinations alphabetically, as suggested above, so the likes of Ardrossan South Beach were as well.

None of this super-fancy Gobi Desert nonsense though.

I've seen a 158 in Haymarket depot with "Manchest United Football Ground" on

Code 403 on the Vultron screen I think.

I don think this one has been mentioned, but I've seen a picture somewhere of a pair of Voyagers coupled together displaying "Stop following me" on the rear cab of the front unit, and "But I love you!" On the front of the rear unit. I thought that was quite fun! I'll see if I can dig out the picture later on.

Not that it should be taken as gospel, but on my train simulator 158, Paris Gare de Nord is one of the codes I can put in. I think I read somewhere (so on here then!) that it was part of a BR press stunt or something, to advertise their foreign connections?

You'd never put that as the destination though... It'd be like putting 'Marston Vale' or 'Cambrian Coast' - you put the end station rather than the line itself! My picture also highlights the way LM 150s almost never say 'Bletchley' or 'Bedford' when running MV services.

Yes but I'm pretty sure 150/0s and /1s have two blinds. So it would say:

Nottingham
Ivanhoe Line

You can see in the picture that it's the lower of the two blinds. So you'd get "Worksop" over "Robin Hood" or some such.

No photo, I'm afraid, but one December in the early 1990s a class 165 at Marylebone was showing "Merry Christmas", and on the screens in each coach there was, instead of the usual list of stations to be called at, a long message wishing all passengers the compliments of the season. Unfortunately the system appeared to have run out of capacity, because the message broke off suddenly before it had had time to complete its good wishes for a happy new year.

165's were showing the same thing last Christmas!

When I was doing my 250 driving hours with a driving instructor last year, we managed to some trips down to Salisbury.
It didn't take me long to work out some codes for back home.

158+9 Super Sprinter Destination Codes:

094 - Birmingham
007 - Aberystwyth
747 - Shrewsbury
097 - Birmingham New Street
095 - Birmingham International
803 - Telford Central

SWT Desiros (and the identical system used in 158s and 159s) I think you can manually input text onto the internal screens, which is usually used for a dividing train to show which carriage is which—SWT don't really use coach letters or numbers like most other TOCs. Also I've seen this system used to "name" the Lymington Branch services as the Lymington Belle.
